The six members of the caucus committee, who refused to accede; to the majority report, tavonngtne modified Windom bill, were Repie entatives Perkins, of Kansas, Bartine. of Nevada, Wickham, of Ohio, Carter, of Montana, Taylor, of Illinois and Hen derson, of Iowa. It was set forth as a compromi.-e measure, and in fact is a composite of the senate and houeo committee bills. The discussion ran till 11 :30 and finally the mbjeet was committed to iho caucus committee. A quaint story is told about .Mas ter Tommy Anderson, an old-time pedagogue. Once he taught a school in Farmington where the boys had driven out several teach ers. He found that the chief con spirator was a good-looking grown up girl, bright, eaucy and proud. The schoolmaster wore his hair iu a cue, as was the custom in those days, when he was '-doina a sum, "with his head down, he tossed his cue back forth as if it were a toy, much to the amuse ment of the scholars. Uncle Tom my said nothing but kept up quite a thinking. He knew ii he called out the guilty girl and punished her, the big boys would rise and and carry him but. So he adopted unusual "tactics in conducting his campaign. He found a lot of long hair hanging up in a barn. From this he selected and smoothed out a bunch resembling a cue, and tied it up nicely with a ribbon. Tak ing this to the schoolroom early the next morning, he suspended it from the peg where the girl always hung her cloak and hood, then lie commenced to eet copies as usual. When she came in and spied the curious contrivance uhe looked surprised and puzzled Quoth Master Tommy iu a mild tone ot voice, "iliss I have brought that bunch of hair for you to use as a plaything instead of my cue." The proud-spirited girl was humil iated betore the whole school and could not help crying. Uncle Tommy had won the victory by etrategem rather than by force of arms and had no further difficulty with his scholars. An Amicable Settlement. PiTTSiiLKO, April 21.
