19. The trial of Mrs. II. Kay Ham
ilton was resumed this morning
with an argument fer the defense,
l'liis was followed by an aigument
for the prosecution. After recess
the judgo delivered the charge and
the case wao given to the jury.
The jury soon returned a verdict
of euilty of atrocious assault. Mrr.
Hamilton was led into the court
room and when the foreman of the
jury declared a verdict she fell in a
swoon on the place. It was a most
dramatic scene and brought tears
to most every eye in the court
room. She was set.tsnced to two
years in state's prison.

aflect the evidence against the

From St. Paul comes the report
that is the Stillwater Penitentiary,
'Bob." Yonger, youngest of the no
torious Younger Brothers, who
who were sentenced to life im
prisonment tor murder in connec
tion with the robbery of the North
field Bank, died of consumption,
from which be had been casting
away for some weeks, and en ac
count of wbieh his pardon was re
cently asked of the Governor, but
not granted.

Tho industry of wocd cirving was
introduced into Switzerland some
sixty or seventy years ago by a native
of lirittiz, named Christian Fischer,
who used to spend his spare time in
making wooden egguups, napkin
rings, needle cases and similar trilling
objects fer sale. It occurred to him
that the imilibjrliood would be
greatly benefited if the young men
could be induced to employ a part of
the long winter evtnisgs in wood
carving. In order to carry out his
scheme he started a night school, an
enterprise iu hieh he was aide by
two Oberlanders, Christian Flcnz and
Peter IiaaniiLU, and thus was laid
the foundation of an industry w hich
now .gives employment to between
five thousand six thousand persons.
It was Fischer who first conceived
tin; idea ot making tiny mode s of
fewis8 chalets, which at cuce found a
ready sale among the travelers who
wore then making the ''grand tcur"
of Europe. The new objects he se
lected as models were the flowers and
creeping plants which ador so many
of the Oberlauders' homes, and add
such an infinite charm and beauty to
to tluae picturesque .little dwellings.

aud proficiency, specimens of his
work being now much sought after
sb models by the younger generation
in the crart. 'The . eld uoau is still
olive, aud although nearly ninety,
appears to have lost none of his Skill.
While visiting his workshop at'
Brieiiz, we found him just putting
the finishing touches to a panel, on
which he bad carved out of the solid
wood a marvelously realistic bunch of
roses. Pointing first to the fresh
flowers, which lav on his bench, and
then to his work, he exclaimed with
a tone of genuine satisfaction in his
voice, "Jet-:t; das ist ganz wie natur."

wonderful midget i within the past
year. Only a few months ago there
died in Washington Village probably
Ihe smallest infant that wat ever born
alive in this section. It weighed less
than a pound, and was the child of
Mrs. Charles Shepard, whose husband
was an cmplove of the city. The
chiid was so small that its hand could
be passed through a small linger ring.
Mother and child are both dead.
Another midget, which weighed
about four pounds, was the progeny
of a Mr. and Mrs. Murphy in the
lower portiou of the Pcumsula district.
But the marvel of the trio is Annie
Louise Harrington, whose weight is
3j ounces, "aud a healthy, fuily
formed, cheery infant at that, with a
Icisterous set of lungs. This baby's
father is the cousin of Charles Shepard
who was the father of the Washington
Village midget, now deceased. Annie
Louise was be ru three weeks ago. It
is ope of twins; the other was bora
time weeks ago. The little one. has
been 8 k nly two days since its birth.
It has a luxurious growth of black hair
aud blue eyes. It nurses regularly,
but has not increased a fraction oi an
ounce, in w-eigbt, . the mother says,

of limbs, pfnk with health.
The mother says that she is ol waya -fearful
when she bathes it. "This ia
