Mr. Alackay went to San Francisco and talkod to Colonel Charles F. Crocker about selling the property to the Southern Pacific Company and was reforred by him to Mr. C. P. lluntingtcn, in New York. Negoti ations were carried oa there and on June 8 Mr. Mackay sailed for Scot land, carrying an agreement signed by Mr. Huntington which has since his arrival beep approved by the bondholders. The liquidator recently aiadc a first assessment on stockholders to raisj 30,080, of which 20,000 will be used to pay off the expenses ef the law knits in the United Statec, for which preferred stock waa issued in 1884. The other 10,000 will be applied on an indebtedness to the Bntish Linen bank of London, amounting to f4!),000, and another assessment will be made to pay the balance. Aa one of the results of the sale, it may be stated that 8100,000 of the receiver's certiicatea of the Ore gonian railway were purchased on Friday last at 90 cents on the dollar, and $10 300 ef receiver's checks at about 83 cents on the dollar. There i $336,000 in receiver's certificates ont, and $96,000 iu pay checks. The result of this sale will be that ihc Orcgonian railway Hues will be consolidated with the Portland & Willamette Valley Railway, making a complete narrow gauge system as was at first intended. This barrel boat is designed for a life boat, and is eleven feet long and forty 'sches in diameter. It looki a little like a torpedo, with a turret amidship, and has side wheels, stor ing apparatus and other appliances similar to a flying machine, for aquatic use. The craft is a cylinder iu shape, and has three compart ments, each of which is water ti6ht. The center compartment is forty three inches long and forty inches ia diameter. The craft is strongly built of well-seasoned oak and cedar staves, aud is bound with twenty four iron bands.
