ThelOO.OOO for the Astoria A South Coast railroad Jias all been subscribed, says the Astcria l'ioneer. The work will now be pushed forward as rapidlj- as pos sible. The railroad iron for the first thirteen miles will be on the ground by next Friday. An en gine has been purchased and suffi cient cars to expedite the nork. Tne company expect to have the road completed from Skipauon landing to Cearhart's woods, a distance of thirteen miles, and cars running by July 15. The work will be pushed through to Grimes' hotel this fall and an . 1 a it a cnorc maue 10 complete me uriuge. The road will then probably go up i J the jNecaniaum 10 connect with the valley road. We understand that it will not go within three miles of the Holladay property, leaving that section out of railroad ,com munication. As the ownerB of that property have not contributed oae cent to the road they ought not to receive any of the benofits. Tie seaside tortninus of the road will be at Grimes'. An effort will also be made to make a survey from Grimes' place to Tillamook and thence to Saiem or Albany. If Albany wants this second out let to the sea, thus enjoying the trade from the two principal har bors of Oregon, some action look ing to to that end should he taken by the business men and citizens tf this citv. The Georgin Woodthorpe Co. presented this realistic Western drama at the opera house last evening in a manner attended with thrilling interest from first to last. The wild frontier and mining days of California were portrayed in a most successful manner, and with much satisfaction to the audience. In the last act, in the home of M'Liss, some elegant costumes were worn and fir.e acting done. During the course of the play Miss Georgie Woodthori, who has a beautiful contralto voice, and Mr. II. Corbett sang a duet which won a storm of applause. To-night the company will play Jfancnon, the Cricket, in which Miss Woodthorpe appears in her leading point. Kuildlng and Loan Association.
