The said street railway shall be constructed and main tained upon the grade as estab lished by th'city of Albany upon sattl streets, and the said company si. all at all times keep and main tain the said railway in good con dition and repair, including the space between the rails, and that the cars run thereon shall be first class and. kept in a cleanly condi tion. And the said Albany Street Railway Co. and its assigns shall have and hereby is granted the privilege of using steam, electric or horse p wer, as said company or its assigns may hereafter de termine. That, work shall be commenced upon the construction of said railway within Wdaysfrom the approval of this ordinance, and the same shall be completed upon First street from Washington street to the intersection with Lyen street and uoon Lyon street to the Ore grn & Ca'if r .ia 1 a'lroad Co.'s depot within one year from such approval. Sec. 9. That said railway com pany or its assigns shall upon for feiture of this franchise put all streets upon which its said lines shall have been located in as good condition and repair as the balance of said streets within said city of Albany within 90 days from the forfeiture thereof. Sec. 10. This ordinance shall take effect and be in force fo n and after its approval by the mayor. The ordinance was signed by Mayor Cowan on Feb. 28, and it terms Have been accepted by the company. A meeting of the stock holders will probably be held next week, at which time oflicers will be elected and arrangements made for the immediate commencement of work. A'llxKttKT IS STttKK. Read, secretary of the opera house company, states that a number of firt-class shows are booked for performance in this citv next month. The Ben Colton Comedy Co.,con- sidereu one of the hest on the road will be here on March i!2. On or about April 15 the never-to-be-forgotten Akin Joslyn Com pany will appear in an entirely new play. The Koyce & Lansing Musical Comedy Co.. which is favorably known in Albany, will be her.- on April 1. The well known Grismer-Davif Dramatic Company is booked for one of their splendid performancr on April 2(. ItispDssible that Paul Boytm will give an exhibition here, as his agent has written for information concerning a suuaoie place lor a performance by this noted swim mer. It is quite certain that this city is to be treated to a series of first class performances during the next month. He cause. tie was informed that since the pumpkin was taken from the garden last fall it had jjrown six inches in dianWr, in fact had been growing all inter, and that on account of the recent rain it had begun to grow so rapidly tliat it was crowded against the window breaking it. As the pumpkin was something like a hundred pounder the eastern man was ready to believe any thing, and he accepted the story and went to the hotel to write home about this wonderful climate. -l.-'-. i A Bis PiirrtaiiM'. . A syndicate of Albany men con sisting of F. M. Redfield, V. C. Tweedale and V. F. Crosby have purchased of .John Millard 40 acres adjoining the city between the fair ground and the Flkins falls, and with the latter gentleman have formed a company, who will plat the same, lay it out in town lots and place them upon the market. The price paid for the land was tftiOO and 50 per acre. The plat is beautifully located, and it will before very long be dotted with residences. To Improve the ttuera Mouse. A meeting of the stockholders of the Albany Buildiog Association will beheld wu the 19th inst, at which time directors will be elected for tiieeusuing year. It is also stated that a proposition will be made to raise up tlit opera house, making it a three story building, the ground floor to be used as a business bouse.. Wolverton, L. O. Marehajl, J. K. Weatherford, L. Senders, G. W. Maston and G. F. Simpson, met last evening and organized, by the election of G. F. Sunpsori, pres ident. C. E. Wolverton secretary and D. P. Mason treasurer.' The following building commit tee was appointed, with instruc tions to submit the plans, adver tise for bids and arrange for the immediate work of constructing the building: G. W. Mastan, L. Sen ders and G. F, Simpson. The building will be a two-story structure, 100 feet long and 42 feet front on First street. The location is the ground purchased last sum mer, where the old building of the First National Bank now stands and the wooden building eat of the same. They Return from, a Trip to Lebanon- Tho Proposed Ci aviHe Bni ch. Messrs. Koehler, Brandt and! other oflicials of the Southern Pacific railroad returned to Port-1 land vesterdav from a trip over the ! Lebanon branch of the road. They went to Lebanon to investigate the matter of the recent injury re ceived by W. II. Watkins, for which he" has sued the company for $10,528. They also had in yiew tlie . pro posed " extension of the Lebanon liranh t-j Sodaville. and it is un derstood, sent engineers to view the route and make various inves tigations concerning it. The people of Sodaville ollerto secure the right of way, and there is little doubt but that the road will be built along with the other railroad pntfrorises this summer, as it is comparatively a 1' vel route and the cost of construction wouid be small Coming to Oregon.
