In order to fully understand the object of the meeting the minutes of the last regular meeting were read in full. The mayor announced that the meeting was to give the council, as the committee of the whole,opor tunity to consider the subject of grading Washington street. After deliberation the conimitte of the whole reported as follows : We.- would make the fol lowing leport in the maiter ot the petition of W. C. Tweedaleand thirty-nine others to have Wash ington street, and intersecting from iir3t to third streets, put on the regular grade, and the petition 1 of E. I,. Thompson and Peter Schlosser to have the alley in block ten (10) put on the regular grade, and also the remonstrance of A. II. Marshal and fifteen others against putting said Washington street, and intersecting streets between first and third streets on the rega 1 ir grade, that thev have caie :u!ly and thoroughly examined both, and considered both the jietition and remonstrance, and would respectfully rubinit tne fol lowing improvement of said streets, to-wit : 1st. iVe recommend that Wash ington street be graded and gra vel ed from Water street to Third street, according to the established gia.Je now on file in the recorder's on.ee. :iND. That the alley in block ten ! ween retry and Washinutnn sMeets be cut down and graded so m it the same shall correspond v, ith the grade on Ferry and Wash-iu-.'ton streets. IKi). That Second street be cut down to regular trade from Ferry to Washington streets, the same to be graveled. Also that a run uing grade bti made for th present between Washington and Calapooia streets, the same to be graveled, the work not to be commenced until the Washington street grade is iiiuslied. , 4th.
