The latter shot him in the top of the head as be was stooped over, inflicting a wound from which the physician says be cannot recover. Mead aud his estimable wife. who own a fine farm on the mesa. have put in about 250 acres of wheat this season and are still ulovnne. Mrs. Mead not carinsr to do the housework for a hired man, conclud ed it was cheaper to hire a girl aud do the plowing herself. Knowiug how his wife enjoyed all out-door ex ercise, Mr. Mead accepted tbe propos ition, at the same time thinking a tew days plowing would satisfy his wife, that it would be too much for be- to undertake, but there he was mistaken. They commenced about Thabksciv'inp, each having a four- horse team and a uaDg plow. Mrs .Mead who tends to her own team has up to date plowed and sown as much as her husband. Up to two years ago Mrs. Mead had never heen ou a farm, having been born and raised in the city. Frkraary Table Talk. Table Talk for Folmiary contains a dainty list of contents over which its readers will be excusable in smack ing their lips. We like Table Talk. We like its subjects and like the manner in which it handles it. Nor should we think its task an easy one. however de'ij(htfal it may bo in other respects. Ike palate ia coquettish; tickle as the wind and more unsteady than a weather cock in a March bliz zard. Not one of them it satisfied long with tbe aame dish, no matter how delicious, nor can any two of them agree upon what constitutes delicjousnesa. The epicure demands, as a necessity, what the pla-.nliver doesn t ri anker alter, and wouldu't have; and, that which the plainliver enjoys and thrives upot, the dainty epicure migbt decide to be an excel lent dish ouly for bis dogs. To bo mor both extremes, and at the same time cater to the great bulk of humanity that lies between, is the task of Table Talk. Not an easy oue as we have said, and therefore we congratulate Mrs. Rorer upon the skill with, which she gets around it is for the literary merit of the mac azine it has enough to enable it to its ned gracefully up among the per iodicals of the day. Pleasing topics. pleasantly written by competent pens and original poema and stones are to b) found io each number, together with much other matter to assist in makiug it what it proteases to be 'A Magazine for the Household." The monthly magazine which ber Majesty has just started is called La Jeune Fille, and ia in teazled to keep young girls au fait of household mat ters, and also of events in the world of art aud literature. The immigration from these two countries was as high as that from Germany, and the im inigra'ion from Italy alone was just alx.ut equal to that from Ireland.
