The Road to Ee Comoletcd to Meliama Within Ten Days. About 100 white and Chinese laborer were taken to the front to work on the Oregon Pacific .rail road yesterday. There were 300 white laborers to work for Myers it Co. and sixty Chinese to work on the contract of Searle iSc Deane. This is only a sample of the many laborers who are daily go ing to Ihe front to work on the eastward extension of the road. The track is now finished to with in five miles of Mehama, and within ten days it is expected it will he completed to that place, when daily construction trains will iie run between this city and Me hama. Work is being pushed vig orously on ail parts of the road, and the close of this season's work will probably witness the comple tion of the road as far as Brighten bush, sixty miles east of this city. The bridge across the Santiamat Mills City is progressing finely. The two west piers are in and the stav cords and temporary work is all in place, while a good working crew are rapidly pushing the woik ilong. Several new saw mills will be erected in various places along the line to lunnsh the necessaiy timber for construction. The mill o Sitnms & Co. at Mills City is ex-;ct-ito start up Monday. Interesting Relic. EprlRace, proprietor of the St. Charles hotel, has an old flint lock musket and an old-fashioned horse pistol, -which are of genuine his torical interest. Tney were once the property of Benj. Harrison, of revolutionary war fame. Their owner was one of the signers of the declaration of independence, and was the great-grandfather of General B'jnj. A Hoinl Appointment. Geo. Humphrey, Esq., of this city, has been appointed Deputy V. S. Marshal for Linn county. Myers of Southern Oregon, who raised Shetland ponies as well as fine Percheron horses, will pass through this city on this morning's freight train with a car ioad of ponies, colts and huge horses, en route to the fat stock show in Port- land.
