In every department of hus bandry it is wise economy to pro cure the best and the- purest that can be had, when raising or pre paring articles for the market. And care should be taken that only the best and the purest reach the market. If inferior products are grown it is be.t not to market it at all rather than attempt as the term goes to work it off at some price; better suffer a loss than to attempt to place impure food supplies where thev will be F1 - , . . I likely to be consumed and entail suffering or disease. Husbandman in discussing this subject says that the best system of farming is that which will produce largest returns relative to cost and at the same time leave resources unimpaired, or fully responsive to farther drafts. Now, while this may be regarded as a general statement, true in all its parts, there is room for wide .1: C f bnvQ c-L-i-ill i L ' 1 , , oe to meet the varied wants of a people, entitled by their industry 1 4.1. It is by no means an unworthy desire that leads men and women of cultivated tisces to ' seek the best food, pure, whole-1 some and palatable, its use is conducive to health that is menaced whenever poor, or insufficient, food is taken, even when unpalatable food is forced into use. Herein is a matter to be considered by producers farmers who will do the best for themselves when they take utmost care to produce the best. This is a step toward com mand of the market. It is a way towards highest prices and, at the same time, is in the line of wise economy whea considered with; reference to ultimate results. The fcllowing significant lan guage used by Robert Middleton, president of the Ftica, N. V.. woolen mills, brings out an impor tant fact generally overlooked in connection with free wool, and one of especial interest to towns and communities desiring the estab lishment of woolen mills as does Albany and Linn county : "The practical operation of the Mills bill at once places about one fourth of the business of the Globe mills upon an absolute free-trade basis, notwithstanding the asser tion that T he Mills bill does not favor free-trade. It would stop our wool sorting, washing, scour ing, picking, dyeing, carding and combing for the reason that all wools are to be admitted free. Wool in the grease, sorted, scoured, picked, dyed, carded or combed, still remains wool. It is not changed from wool until it gets into yarn. Wool can be sorted, prepared for scouring, scoured, picked, carded, combed and ' dyed cheaper in Europe than in this country by reason of their low price of labor. It is easy to be seen that with free wool all of our . - -c those processes betore it is un ported. There is no article of commerce between wool and yarn. And there is no condition of wool before it gets to be yarn when it could be called a manufacture of wool any more than sorted, washed or scoured wool can be called a manufacture of wool. 'I would be pleased if some of our Southern statesmen, politicians i or newspaper writers would tell us how the woolen trull can he run so as not to lose m witil one. of A r Woolen mills, like all oti.er manu-! facturing establishments, did net uiaivc UIUUCJ IJJ OlrtllUlll nun.
