The president, Mrs. lilain read a summary of the district work for the year past, and offered j suggestions for future work. Revs. Gibney and Kirkpatrick of Leb anon, Rev. Moody, recently of Arkansas and Rev. J. W. Webb, Salem were introduced to the con vention ; each one of them had warm words o' encouragement for the ladies, and pledged their as sistance in the work of the tempei ance reform. A hearty vote of thanks was tendered the gentle men. The evening session was well attended. A well prepared and very superior paper, on Narcotics, written by Mrs. H. A. Newell o! Salem, was read by Mrs. R. . Wallace of the Salem union. Ful lowing this came an address by Rev. J. W. Webb, of Salem. In part of his remarks were a con densed statement of the hues ! work prosecuted by the W. 0. T. V . lie did not laud this work, simply because it was women's work, and ! sjw his compliments broad cast,! but gave a concise clearly delim d j statement of what this organ iza-! tion is doing. 'His lecture in all; its bearings was lorcible and calcu lated to do much good.
