A Chinaman the other day walked around where the carpen ters are at work on Mr. Race's hotel and boldly picking up a step ladder walked off with it. No one interfered, as it was supposed he had borrowed it ot Mr. Race, but its nor- ippearance when wanted led to inquiry, and developed the fact that it was a piece of bold p?tty thievery. I hey were provided by the Board of Trade with a bountiful supply of the fruit of the Willamette Valley, to stiow them wuat oeautitul pro ductions can be grown here. As on the former occasion the fruit was put on the train to be partaken of at leisure. Prof. McElroy was on board, coming bick on the noon train, and reported a well pleased crowd, who adopted res olutions expressive of their ap preciation of the action of the Board of Trade, and of the hand some appearance of Albany. The party included teachers from Mas sachusetts, Illinois, Wisconsin, Connecticut, Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Still to Ibe Front. G. W. Simpson, who has been offering great bargains to the peo ple of Linn county, is determined to continue his offers of first-class goods at way down prices. He has now bought and added to his store the stock of clothing, gents furnishing goods, boots, shoes, etc., of C. B. Holand & Co., which he proposes to still sell out at cost. His place of business has become the synonym for big bargains, and with this additional stock custom ers will find a complete line of gen eral merchandise to select from.
