assembled here this morning was

outcome of lo-day's work, by rea-

Wednesday in an address by the

Captain Griffin of the barken tine
Clara McGilvery, which arrived in
port on Thursday from Porto Rico,
says that the Gulf Stream is more
than sixty miles out of its-usual
course. It is supposed that the
recent blizzard has had some effect
in driving the stream to the east
ward and southward of where it is
usua.ly found. Cabtain Griffin
savs that a cold current of water
surrounds the stream, registering
as low as 40" Fahrenheit. Masters
of vessels bound from Cuba to New
York and Philadelphia have been
warned of this change. In order
to get the i f rUl benefit and strength
of the current, vessels must keep at
length to the eastward oi the usual
coun-e., The McGilvery encount
ered hurricanes on four occasions
on the trip f:omCuba, and narrow
ly escaped destruction.

will, on Wendesday, the 9th day of May, A.
D.,1888, at one o'clock, p. m., receive sealed
bids for a contract to build fifty rods of rock
and dirt road, commencing on the east eud
where the planking: commences on Beaver
Slough near widow Ray s and run west over
the ground where the old Beaver Creek
bridge now stands a distance of fifty tods,
by taking thefloorini, off the old bridge ar d
layinc it on the ground cross ways as far as
it goes. Then use fir poles the rest of the
way until the whole fifty rods of ground in
length is coe;ed. Then cover this with,
rock at least twelve inches thick and ten feet
w ide. 'Then put dirt and gravel about three
inches thick ou the rock. There shall be two
culverts in raid rock road. The first one
about ten rods from the starting point on
east end of the old bridge. The second cul
vert to be about twenty three rods from east
endo' said rock road. Each of said culverts
to be made sufficient width for all teams to
pass. The Board reserves the right to rejei t
any and all bids.
