London, March 10. The battle took place at the-traing grounds belonging to Baron Rothchild, and lasted 39 rounds, and vas continu ed two liours and a. quarter. It is rejwrted that Sullivan suffered from the chiU and cold rain which was falling all morning. Mitchell had trouble with his sun burned hanrs. The referee, after the 39th round, decided the fight a draw, and Sullivan accepted the decision. Towards the finish of the fight Mitchell improved and confined doing better before the referee de lcared a draw. Both men received black eyes. - The police were cog nizant of their movements. The fight was a desperate one, and both men received severe punish ment, i u h an was out of condi tion when he entered the ring and Mitchell has the best of the faght. His friends a isert that be would have won had thi fight been con tinued. U p to the eighth round Sullivan appeared to have the best of the fight, but the iact that he could not' knock .Mitchell out. seemed to discourage him, and after that he fought with little spirit. Mitchell showed great pluck throughout, and his friends are jubilant as the result is virtually a vict iy for the little Englishmen. At the end of the fight both men were in poor shape and Mitchell's backers filially consented to the proposition made bv Sullivan s backers, that the fight be declared a draw. Tea Mitchell, Dak., March 9. A fire occurred in the Methodist Uriversity early this morning from the spontaneous combustion of rag in the art room. There were forty inmates in the huilding, io eluding the faculty, students and servants. All lut teu ef them es caped. Four young men jumped from a second story window. Four others and a professor jumped from the third story, and another pro fessor deceoded from the roof by a clothes line. The fallowing is a list of the victims: llortou nlcher, internal injuries, died in two hours; Hattie Taylor, an execution teacher, spine injured; Miss Babcock, internal injuries; Miss Strong, back bruised; Prof. Duncan, lacerated hands and face; Prof. R. H. Taylrrr, skull fractured, arm broken aud internal injuries, will die; Will Smith, es broken and internally mjuied; H. Parker, broken ankle; A. Jones, spine injured, also hurt internally. K.. solves tue problem as follows: "The house must be per fectly ciicViar in plan or many cornered, at least sixteen, like the cvclorauia building. This must be built on a turntable, with a pivot in the center. The attic must be floored and kept clear of everything, and from there a "key" is run down to the turntable with a system of cog wheels like on the Morrison street bridge1 drawpier, only not so much out of plumb. "As soon as the sun rises in the moruiD" the 'boss' of the house turns the key, which in turn turns the bouse around, thus giv ing every side ot the same us equal share ot the sunlight, like a roast n a spit. If the master of the house is not inclined to take the exercise, a Chinaman might be em ployed, but he would not be so le liable to keep turning it evenly Windmill power might be employ ed for houses on Portland heights, and the electricity to be brought in from Oregon City will do for East Portland residences. In the Roval Museum of Copen hagen there is, and has been more than 20 years, a trolden trumpet known throughout Denmark tis the "Danish Horn," with engraved emblems'!" comprising the symbol of purity, the triple lily. Its weight is 102 ounces and it meas-" ure-s two feet nine inches in length. This horn is said to be a genuine trumpet of Zion. The surround ing circumstances strongly sustain the position, and up to the present time there has not been the slightest scientiffg doubt as to the genuineness of the relic. The iily, as a sym bol of purity, was gener a'ly carried in the right hand by the vest j1 virgins of the temple; it also forms the emblem of the shekel, the Jewish coin. There are also discernible the much effaced remains of what has the appearance of pomegranates, and trace of an inscription, which, as far as it can be made out, is en graved in that kind of Hebrew characters known as the Samari tan text. The emblems and in scriptions may be easily accounted for and accepted for the word "Jehovah." The trumpet was discovered by a farmer's daughter, partly conceal? ed in the ground, in 1 15:30, in the diocese of Itypeny, Jutland. As to how it found its ay from Pales tine to Denmark can only be con jectured. It is accepted as a fact that the relic at one time was one of the instruments anciently used in Solomon's Temple. Certain or naments, and especially the beau tiful engravings near the opening of the large end of the instrument, lorming a turreted border around its edge, are the most convincing proofs for this position. When Titus Vespasianus, the youthful Koman General, subjugated Juaiea and destroyed its tempie, he took the rerowned taDles, and seven- branch candlesticks, the Sacred Books" and the trumpet to Home where they were, with other trophies oi Victory, carried in pro cession through the city in honor of the conqueror. Upon t.ie arch of Titus these things were sculpt ured and mav be seen in Rome in a fair state of preservation to-day. The "Sacred Books', the victor presented to Joseph Flavius, the Jewish hi-itoriar. Afterwards when Titus became Emperer of Home, the instruments and "tables of shew bread," by decree of the Senate and Council of Rome, were placed in the great temple of Jupi ter. Between the fourth and sixth centuries Rome was overrun by hordes of northern barbarians. The city was taken, religion was dethroned, and temples regardless of their sanctity, sacred or histori cal, sacreligiously plundered. After their retreat from Rome the Van dals carried off with them the spoils they had seized in the tem ples. This trumpet ot gold, which corresponds in every particular with the trumpets sculptured upon the "Arce of Titus" was doubtless carried to the north with the other plunder and in turn lost by the conquerors of Rome who had Taken it from the conquerors of the Je.vs. Jnst Reccivcc'. Regarding the itinera! and other ceremonies of the late emperor, nothing has us yet been done, as ail depends on the orders ol the new emperor. The city presented yester day a soene of deep mourning, sor row was depicted oh every face, and the streets, especially those near Linden avenue, wore a very mournful appearance, Deep Sorrow Expressed. Bkhlin, March 10. The Dfortlt German Gazette says : "The deep sorrow in which the death ot the emperor has sunk the German ra tion, casts a dark shadow, not only on our national feeling, but on the character of the whole internation al situation". Funeral Serrice Held. Beblix, March 10. The funeral services were held over the re mains off the late Emperor William in the mortuary chamber of the palace last evening. The ehain berwas profusely decorated with flowers. The dowager Empress Augusta, grand duke and grand uuchess of Baden, crown prince and crown princess of Sweden, and other royal personages attend ed the services. A Quiet Dignity. Pakis, March 15. With a few excepiions, which met with gener al contempt, both newspapers aud citizens here have done themselves credit by the dignity with -which they received the news, and the moderation and justice with which they judge the dead emperor. Bill Walker, chief of the "Bald Knob fcers," has been found guilty of murder and sentenced to be hang ed. The crime for which he was f .uind guilty was the murder com mitted over a year ago of George Green and William Evans, who had in some wpv offended the "Bald Knohbe."
