The stanza which Congressman Cox undertook tc quote the other any is correctly given .as follows: Yo monsters of the mighty deep, Your Maker's praises spout; Up from tin: sands ye codlings peep, And va your tails about. The Waterburv American thinks this no worse than two lines of a hymn sung in Connecticut i.ot twenty years ago: How happy shall the siints arise, And rub tiie dust from out they: eyes. These specimens recall auoihir antique stanza of the same variety. My sou! is like a rusty lock, Oh, oil it with Thy jrraoe! Oh, rub it, rub, rub it, Lord, Until I see thy face. In a Fix. An Oregon ian reporter was giv en a perplexing conunidrum the other day which broke him all up, which he explains thusly : A gen tleman who is about to build a home in the suburbs, wishes to know what point of the compass his house must face in order that the sunlight may shine equally on ail its four sides". Houses are gen erally built to face one of the car dinal points of the compass, and tiie north side is hardly ever touched bv the sunshine. The gentleman above mentioned thinks there must be some way of build ing the house so that the sunshine can fall nearly equal on each side. It gives one's brains a twht io think of it,but perhaps some builu er or architect can tell how this can be done, or if not why not? - A bachelor tried to carve a jjoose In tain! He could not find a thih-bone loose, Twas plain; He stuck a fork in the creature's breast, And gravv spurted ovei his vest; And guests all smiled like seraphs blest Asjain' The Carver's face was red and white, Indeed; He sawed away, if that he iuisht Succeed; His collar parted with a snap, His coat tail flapped with many a flap, Thejcoose slippd into the hostess' lap .
