SOMETHING AltOl T EGGS. their I'm- as Food, uk Medicine and in the Industries. London Standard. Eggs are a meal themselves. Every element necessary to the support of man is contained within the limits of an egg-shell. . in the best proportions flml in the most palatable form. Pl.iin boiled, they ate wholesome. The masters of ! French cookery, however, affirm that it is easv to dress them in more than 500 different wavs, ech method not. only economical but salutary in the highest degree. No honest appetite ever yet rejected an egg in some guise. It is nutri ment in-the most portable foriiv and in the most concentrated shape. Whole nations of mankind rarely touch any oilier animal food. Kings eat them plain as readily as uo the humble tribesmen. After the victory of Muhldorf, when the Kaiser Ludwig sat at meat with his burggrafs and great capti.ins, he determined on a piece of luxury "one egg to every man am. i wo io the excellently valiant Schwepperm.in." Far more than fish, for its watery diet, eggs are the scholar's fare. They contain pi osporus. which is brain food, and sulphur, which performs a varie'y of functions in the economy And they are the hetd; of nutriment for children, for, in a compact form, they contain everything that is necessary for the growth of the youthful fianie. Eggs are, how ever not only food. They are medi cine also. The white is the most efficacious of remedies for bums, and the oil extractable from the yelk is regarded by tiie Huss.ans as an aimost miraculous salve for cuts, bruises and scratches. A raw egg, if swallowed in time, will effectually detach a fish-bone ! in the throat, and the white of two eggs will render the deadly cor lo&ive sublimate as harmless as a dose of calomel . They strengthen the cot siimptive, invigorate the teeole and render the most sus ceptible all but proof against jaun nit e in its more malignant phase. They can also be drunk in the shape of that "egg flip," which sus tains the oratorical efforts ofa mod ern statesman. The merits of eggs do not eud even here. In France alone the wine claiitieis use more than 80,000,000 a year, and the Alsatians consume fully 38,000,000 in calico printing and for dressing the leather used in making the finest of French kid gloves. Finally not to mentio;) various other em ployments for eggs in the arts, they 'may. of course, almost with out trouble on the farmer's part, be converted into fowis, which, in any shape, are profitable to the seller anl welcome to the buyer. Even egg-shells are valuable, tor allopath and hiinifopath alike agree in re garding them as the purtst f car bonate of time. si.kkim; Lor ticeaslbe. Key Wtst (Fla) Ecjuator. Tiie schooner-vacht Maria, which came into port recently from Old Providence., has gone for the same p'nee and Jamaica. Peter I Knight and Caorain John Roberts of the city left in her. It is reported ui.u the party in charge of her is in search of treasure trove said to be buried somewhere in Spanish Honduras. The vessel is fitted with implements for digging, blast ing, etc, and a thorough search will be made. Rumor also says that a small steamer left New York with another party who are in the same chase. A noted character, well known in the Bahamas and in this place ali.o, who is a monomaniac on money-digging, came here in the Maria. aDd no doubt was in her at Old Providence. If the repor s about the treasure in question comes from him, aud these parties have gone in search of it from that man's statements, then it is indeed a "wild-goose chase of the mtst gi gantic kind. About four years ago this man was in Kingston, Jamaica, told a tale similiar to the above, aud got the merchants and men worked up to a high pitch of excitment, so much so that they fitted out an ex pedition and went in search of the treasure. He stated he was afraid that while he was at work getting the treasure which he described as being immense lots of gold coin, gold candlesticks, platens and chalices, which were stolen from churches from time to time, and a large lot of diamonds, jewerly, etc. the Spaniards would attack him and his party and the expedition would lail. " So great was the excitement that an appeal was made to the Gover nor General of Jamaica, who or dered a gunboat to accompany the expedition. They proceeded to the point named, and instead of finding prodigious caves, etc., as re ported, they found nothing but a tow swamp. Reporis further say that the CaptaiD of the gunboat became so angry that the living in former was compelled to jump oissappoiuted ex ..!:.:. The writer of it was grouse driving in Yorkshire, and Lord de Grey, past master of gunnery, was in the next butt, had three guns ready for use, toward him a small covev of the He and five birds came Hying. How to kill tlie lot was the problem . A brace coin ing and a brace going would be easy to such an adept, but the fifth bird would get away. One of the grouse was a bit in advance, and taking a long shot at it, Lord de (hey killed it, and, with out using the second barrel, dropped gun No. 1, took up gun No. 2, killed two birds coming, then took up gun No. 3. and killed two going.
