Roberds, recently of Myrtle Point aod later of this city, whose demise we have just heard lived a life that merits more than simply a passing, brief notice of bis death. At the time of his death, he was a member in good standingof Arago Chapter II. A. M. at Marshfield. Ore. also of Myrtle Lodge A. F. & A. M. .Myrtle Poiut, Ore., and of Elgin Chapter O. E. 8. and recently transferred his mem bership from the G. A 11. at Myrtle Poiut, where he resided several years previous to his return to his old borne at Eagle Creek, to Gen. Meade Post of Oregon City, lu nearly all of these organizations he has at various times occupied offi cial positions of prominence and trust, sod his integrity aud faith fulness no man could question. He was among the first to eulist in Co. H. 1st Ind. Heavy Artillery, aod uutil the close of the war be proved himself a brave and effi cient soldier. His woith was ap preoiated by his comrades. Twice be gave ap preferment that should by right.have been his, to others because they were his seniors in years aud because he loved their friendship more than thehonor^of advancement. Al- though but a Sergent, bejwns frequently placed ¡ d positions of trust and at one time was left in charge of Fort Gaines for several weeks. The happiest hours in bis closiDg years were those spent in com- pauy with the veterans o f tbeG. A. R. and almost his last re quest was for the “ Boys” to bury him. He graduated from the Kansas City Medical College in 1877, and from the Kansas City Pharma- cetical College in 1886. During bis professional career, which was long and arduous, his highest aim was to do his best for suffering humanity, almost regardless of re muneration. His life was shorten ed by country rides when lie should kave been resting quietly in bis own room. He was U. 8. Pension Examiner for many years in Ne braska and also in Oregon, and his reports were acknowledged at Washington as being among the best entered there. His Christian life began while yet in bis youth, and his member ship in the M. E. church, and his office as local older, therein, ceas ed only with his death, which oc- cured April 6th, ‘03. at St. Vin cent’ s Hospital, Portland, Oregon. He was married to Annie E, Hoff M.
