In tbe senate, upon receipt of tbe president’s special message, Senator Jones, of Arkansas, offered a joint resolution appropriating $150,000 for supplies to Mississippi river flood sufferers. In the honse, Catcbings of Mis sissippi offeied a resolution appro priating $200,000 for the relief of flood sufferers. The senate passed the Jones resolution aud the house the Catch- inga resolution. This would have left an awkward situation, but the senate yielded precedence to the bouse, recalled its resolution and promptly paBBei the house resolu tion, which then went to the piesi- dent. The president signed the res olution at 1:55 p. in. Secretary Alger acted with the greatest promptness, and has al ready almost completed arrange ments for distiibutiou of govern ment relief for the flood sufferers. By the present plan, army officers will start for Memphis tomorrow, aud dividing the Mississippi into six sections, will ascertain tbe anti needs of the people; another detail of officers following and distribut ing rations.
