of flame burnt forth at times three or
four feet high lighting up tbe vicinity,
making a weird and bewitching scene
at night. Here tbe electric lights are
used freely, tuaklug it almost as light
as day. Tbe capacity of tbe mills Is
about 160,0X1 feet per tweuty-four hours.
Little cottsgee for the families of em­
ployes stand out picturesquely among
the trees, ami there are about 160 men
who live on tbe best of rations at tbe
different cook-housee, beside those who
reside iu tbe various camps. Hours
seem as but minutes in this busy world
in the heart «f the woods, which by the
way are so dense that It is estimated
that it will take at least thirty years to
couvert it all intolumber. Reluctantly
we ret race our steps aud are soon speed­
ing over the three miles Into Willits.
With regret I leave this restlul, quiet,
beautiful country spot, where one could
readily spend their eutlresummer vaca­
tion, and on tbe follow lug morning re­
turn to busy, bustling Han Francisco,
carrying pleasant memories of a most
enjoyable and instructive trip into this
beautiful section. It is a trip you will I
never regret taking, and ouce will not
satisfy you, for you will never rest un­
