The strike, of the Amalgamated Steel workers, is growing io import ance. Hnd there is no present indica tion of u settlement. Both sides ap pear to be determined to brave the consequences, and it i« very difficult to foresee immediate results. Sym pathy is largely with the strikers, and po one need bo surprised if all the labor unions in America are called put before the trouble is adjusted. Ball Game a Failure. The ball game, advertised for last Sunday proved a failure, in this that it did not materialize. The purse was up, and the gate receipts gathered, and every arrange ment completed, but wbeu the call to play Lail, went fourth, it was discov ered thnt thero was but one new ball on the grounds, and as the league rules call for two, the Marshfield team, led by Wright left the field, although there were two other balls on the ground which had seen but very slight service- Bandon was out of baseballs and the difficulty could not be remedied. Still there were many persons pres ent who thought the pretext given too trivial an excuse, and believe that there was a different reasou bidden behind this pretext. The steamer Dispatch had come down from Coquille, on Saturday evening, making the second time she put in an appoarance that day with excursionists, and on Sunday she brought down a large delegation to witness the ball game, while there were numerous residents o( Ban don and viciuity present, but they were all doomed to disappointment, and they were not a few who re marked that the real reason of the walk off was, that the Marshfield team had ran up against "the real thing” and walked off to avoid defeat, After the game was off the task of returning the gate receipts was un dertaken but the money failed to go round. This failure was due to par ties calling for a return of money who had beat their way iuto the grounds. Bandon residents were not, gener ally speaking, over anxious as to which team might win, but wished to see a cosely contested game- Education of Women. Mogtux, Auo. 5 th .
