The strike, of the Amalgamated
Steel workers, is growing io import
ance. Hnd there is no present indica
tion of u settlement. Both sides ap
pear to be determined to brave the
consequences, and it i« very difficult
to foresee immediate results. Sym

Ball Game a Failure.
The ball game, advertised for last
Sunday proved a failure, in this that
it did not materialize.
The purse was up, and the gate
receipts gathered, and every arrange

witness the ball game, while there
were numerous residents o( Ban
don and viciuity present, but they
were all doomed to disappointment,
and they were not a few who re
marked that the real reason of the
walk off was, that the Marshfield
team had ran up against "the real
thing” and walked off to avoid defeat,
After the game was off the task of
returning the gate receipts was un
dertaken but the money failed to go
round. This failure was due to par
ties calling for a return of money
who had beat their way iuto the
grounds.
Bandon residents were not, gener
ally speaking, over anxious as to
which team might win, but wished to
see a cosely contested game-
