Another strike bobs np on the wave of prosperity and 20,000 shpot mill workman wont out last Saturday. This, added to the strike of tbo Vir ginia coal miners, and the maebinest strike, makes a big Heck on the wave indicative that tbo millennium of labor relations with capital is still do layer!. The Manila frauds have been whitewashed and Harold M. Fill, manager of Evans & Company, gov ernmentcontractors, acquitted. These whitewashing occasions are conspic- uous and of frequent occurence, and remind us, that once upon a time a uatiou called Jews crucified a just man and turned loose a thief and a robber, aud it is a singular coinci- dotice that tho territory comprised iu the bolding of that people have been overrun by thieves and robbers for pearly two thousand years. The Seventh National bank of Now York has met with a smashing wave of prosperity. The institution loaned a stock brokerage a million and a half dollars on securities that are said to bo worthless, and now tho bank is in the hands of the Controller of Cur rency with liabilities oversix hundred thousand greater than its asserts. Wall Strout brokers are adepts in sei ling golden bricks, only tho bricks in anticipation, are, like the tiger’s claws, cleverly concealed and the victim is mangled before tbo instrument of de struction is discovered. Mammon’s caprices mako one man glad and wound many. The machinists’ strike is reported to be nearly over and that the ma chinists are returning to work uncoil ditionully. This leaves relations be tweyu employers and employes about the same ns they were before the strike commenced, and about, tho only thing that, is demonstrated by strikes is this: That labor has Dot the same light to combine for its own protection which is granted to capital. It is true that labor creates capital, but tho creature after tho creation is accomplished becomes divine in stead of the creator. It is an other example wherein tho creature tries to steal tiie kingdom. President McKinley bas deter mined that the northwest shall re ceive a visit from him, and gives out Hint he will yet come to Oregon and other slates which he failed to visit on hie western trip, T'.ie Oregonian in speaking of the matter says: “President McKinley’s determination to m ike another Western trip in 1901 is doubtless proiuotod partly by the apparent dangers of democratic sue Coss in the November elections. The President is a loyal republican and of tho revivifying effect of his tours np on the party there need be no doubt. Perhaps there is no doubt, either, as to the need of such aid as ho cau render this way.” There is a new conquest to be made, and another foe to bo overcome. The American Baldwin Zeigler oxpedi tion, comprised of the leaders, and 40 men, among whom are many scion fists, vow that the American llagsball wave from tbo North pole. Ttie North pole, when mounted with a short flagstaff, may be an excellent place upon which to unfurl Old Glory but there is a cold shouldered giant entrenched in that seductive locality who, so far. has proved invincible. The question arises: Will the bene fits to science, tiri ing from n di-cov ery of the North polo, justify the sac riticos that have and will b« mad? in obtaining tho desired end. When We Shall He Flee. J Pierpont Morgan and nine other millionaires chartered tho promenade deck of the steamship Deutschland to return to New York from a visit to tho Eastern continent. Doubtless there is a big scheme on and by the time the party reaches Now York Morgan will leave completed a trust to coutrol the air. water and sunshine supply of the earth. p! the flag, the flag. There is more CntHn-b in this neo tion of the country than all other dis eases put together, and until the last few years was supposed to be incur- tittle. For a great many years doctors pronounced it a local dispqse, and prescribed local remedies, and by constantly failing to cure with local treatment, pronounced it incurable. The undersigned baa in slock u large urbortment of ■ ------- -- Apothecary, R oseburg , June 26.—Information was received here yesterday of two serious accidents which occurred in the vicinity of Olalla Saturday. A. E. McCulloch, a rancher, while raking hay, was thrown in front of the iHke and rolled or dragged under the itu plement for a long distance by the frightened horse, which finally ran away. Mr. McCulloch was severely bruised and cut. and his condition is said to be serious. On the s;,me day. Mrs. Fred Van dever was thrown from a horse she was riding and narrowly escaped death. The horse ran after throwing her, but her-.foot remained fast in the stiirup while she was carried around a narrow ledge over a steep, rocky precipice. In its wild efforts tu free itself from tho rider the horse began kicking and struck the woman’s shoe, teating it off, and this released Mrs. Vandever, who was picked up nit- concions and found to have sustained severe injuries about the back. She will probably recover, howevef. Tho Eastern states were visited by a hot wave, lust week, w hich prevailed generally over the country from the Mississippi river to the Atlantic ocean during the whole week, causing many death from heat. It was still hold ing sway on Saturday while people of the whole district were anxiously desiring thunderstorms to cool the ntmosphere. Basasuians sometimes grumble at the Northwest wind, but they are free from excessive heat, aud never swelter from extremely hot weather. J. Pierpont Morgan is again plan nit; g. This time it is said he is desir ing a trust that will control the ship ping of the Americas. The London Express asserts that “Morgan is con vinced that a nation's merchant marine, like its navy, should be under one baud.” That journal might just as truthfully have stated that Mor- guu has long since beeti convinced that both continents should be under the coutrol of otte baud, and that Morgan’s liiiud is the one that he desires to be in exclusivecoutrol.
