JULY 1, 2017 Food Bank provides boxes, seeks help The Grand Ronde Food Bank – iskam mfkhmfk haws – is operated by Marion-Polk Food Share, which has been leading the fight to end hunger since 1987 because no one should be hungry. Recipients of SNAP, TANF, SSI or LIHEAP assistance automatically qualify for assistance at the Grand Ronde Food Bank, 9675 Grand Ronde Road. No one will be turned away in need of a food box. “We believe that everyone deserves to have enough to eat,” Food Bank Coordinator Francene Ambrose says. “You are welcome to get a food box at each of our regular weekly distributions. No one will be turned away in need of a food box.” Upcoming food box distribution dates will be: • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 7; • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 15; • 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, July 21; • 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 26. The Food Bank will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Those who are unable to pick up a food box can fill out an authorized representative form and that person can pick up a food box on your behalf. The authorization is good for one year. This summer, the Food Bank is offering a farm share prescription in partnership with the Grand Ronde Health & Wellness Center. The pro- gram will provide fresh fruit and vegetables to participants to improve their overall health. Participants are identified by their medical providers and distributions start at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 11. “Plan, Shop, Save, Cook!” classes are a partnership with the Oregon State Extension Services. These classes are open to everyone. Topics will include meal planning, budgeting and nutrition. The classes will be held 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays starting on July 18. A Preserving Fruit class will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 20. Learn the basics of canning fruits in this hands-on class. Participants can learn how to prepare the fruit, liquids to use in the jar, basic equipment needed and safe methods for processing and storing this summer’s fruit bounty. Bucket Garden Day is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, July 21. This event is where everyone is welcome to take home free supplies to start their own bucket garden. “Budgeting Tips, Tricks and Idea” classes are continuing with a Cou- poning 101 class scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, July 23. Participants will learn the basics of using coupons and how to get organized. The Food Bank continues to seek volunteers to help with repacking food, putting food on the shelves, handing out food boxes and end-of- month inventory. In addition, volunteers are being sought for the Fresh Alliance program, Salem Harvest and master gardeners to help with Bucket Garden Day. Call to ensure someone is available to assist. People also can sign up for a monthly e-mail for the Food Bank calendar and events, as well as follow the Food Bank on Facebook. The Food Bank is an equal opportunity provider.
