4 APRIL 15, 2011 Smoke Signals Elders' garage sale seeking donations Tribal Elders are regularly seeking donations of items for their fundraising garage sales. To donate an item or items, call Tribal Elder Linda Brandon at 971-267-0918. D Elder's bingo changes days Bingo at the Elders' Activity Center has been moved to the second and fourth Fridays of the month. A potluck dinner starts at 6 p.m. and bingo starts at 6:30 p.m. For more information, contact Elder Activity Assistant Daniel Ham at 503-879-2233. D Chili Challenge benefits Food Bank The Great Chili Challenge and Chow-Down on Saturday, April 30, at the Tribal Community Center will help fund the work of the Grand Ronde Community Resource Center's Food Bank. Chili judging will occur at 4 p.m. and an awards ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. A chili feed will occur afterward in the Community Center. A bowl of chili will cost $3.50 with cornbread and desserts avail able for $1 and drinks for $1.25. Pie-eating contests and 5050 raffles are also scheduled. Chili cook-off contestants must register in advance although there are no registrations fees. D I (-12 Parent Committee meets The monthly K-12 Parent Committee meetings are held the last Wednes day of the month from September through June. B Secirettairy off Statte contacts Tribal Elder By Ron Karten Smoke Signals staff writer Being featured in Smoke Sig nals can have some positive side benefits. That's what Tribal Elder Dorothy "Dottie" Greene discovered after being prominently featured in the March 15 edition. "My mouth was wide open," said Greene, when she received a note from Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown. "I couldn't speak for a few minutes." Brown has been a longtime friend of the Tribe and currently serves on the Spirit Mountain Community Fund Board of Trustees. Brown's note, attached to a copy of the March 15 issue of Smoke Signals, referred to Greene's Elder Feature, which told her life story. "What a wonderful article in Smoke Signals," Brown wrote. B Saddle Club fundraiser scheduled The Tribal Elders' Committee will hold a spaghetti fundraiser for the Saddle Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Tribal Community Center. B Chinuk Family Night set for April 26 The next Chinuk Family Night will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, in the Tribal Community Center.
