Smoke Signals 5 APRIL 15, 2011 2006 Tribal members participated in the National Park Service project "Corps of Discovery II: 200 Years to the Future," which came to Grand Ronde for a March 25-April 2 run. The project was named for the 1803-06 Lewis and Clark expedition, in which Northwest Tribes helped a bedraggled Lewis and Clark crew reach the Pacific Ocean and survive the winter in Oregon. 2001 Three members of the Tribal Enrollment Committee stepped down. Tribal Elders Mabel Gaston, Ila Dowd and Nora Kimsey had a combined 58 years of service on the committee. 1996 Jan Michael Reibach, a security guard at Spirit Mountain Casino, was featured. Reibach moved from Gresham to Grand Ronde to take the job. "I am very grateful for this because it changed my life in a positive way," Reibach said. 1991 Tribal Chairman Mark Mercier discussed the establish ment of Tribal trust funds for Education, Housing, Health and Government. "With time and prudent management," he said, "the Tribe one day will be able to fully control its economic, social and political environment." 1986 Tribal Council members Merle Leno, Kathryn Harrison and Mark Mercier met with Polk and Yamhill county commission ers to keep them posted on the Tribe's progress on the Reservation Plan. As the Restoration Act specified, Tribal Council had to consult with at least three affected counties, which were Tillamook, Yamhill and Polk. Community Input meeting set for May 1 The annual Community Input meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 1, in the Tribal gym following the General Council meeting, which will run from 10 a.m. to noon in the Tribal Community Center in Grand Ronde. Tribal Planning and Grants Manager Kim Rogers said the community meeting will discuss Tribal services and economic development. After a presentation on recent changes in Grand Ronde and planned development over the next decade, two breakout sessions will discuss the two main topics. Input also will be gathered for use in planning and in Tribal grant applications (e.g. HUD ICDBG, ANA, DOJ and others). There also will be a Pendleton blanket drawing and 10 $20 gas vouchers for door prizes. D Culture Night set for April 25 A Tribal Culture Night will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Tribal plankhouse. Dinner will be provided. B SMGI seeks position for board of directors Spirit Mountain Gaming, Inc. (SMGI) is seeking a dynamic business-oriented individual (Tribal or nonTribal member) to fill a vacant position on the SMGI Board of Directors. The SMGI Board oversees the fiscal accountability, budgets, policies, procedures and business operations of Spirit Mountain Casino. The SMGI Board meets once a month and board members receive a stipend each month for their participation in board meetings. Qualifications: We are seeking individuals with general business knowledge, experience in hospitalitycustomer service driven environ ment, and in one or more of the following areas: Marketing; Employee relations; Internal Audit; Finance; Surveillance. Knowledge of Native American-owned and-operated organiza tions is preferred. There should also be a demonstrated ability to be responsive to the goals of the business and its increasing dynamic character with appropriate analytical and communication skills. EFFECTIVE MAY 1,2011 Changes to Social Services Emergency Assistance and Medical Gas Voucher Program For all income criteria programs, wage verification for past 60 days (wage stubs) will need to be submitted. If client has not worked for a period of time, client will need to submit a printout from their State Employment Office or printout from Oregon Self Sufficiency Office as verification of income. Rentaldeposit or utility assistance may be utilized only 1 time in a 24-month rolling calendar period and is not to exceed the maximum contribution of $1,000 per household within any 24-month rolling calendar period. Medical Gas Vouchers Social Services will not provide gas vouchers for medical appointments, counseling or drug & alcohol treatment. The only exception to this is for scheduled treatment plans, (i.e.: radiation, chemotherapy, surgery, etc.) and has caused hardship on the family, medical gas vouchers can be distrib uted to meet the need of the circumstances. A copy of all scheduled treat ment plans must be received before client is eligible to receive this service. Assistance will end on the date of the last treatment appointment.
