Tribal Council Candidate Forum set for Aug. 22 Event to be held in Tribal gymnasium at noon By Dean Rhodes Smoke Signals editor Tribal Council has autho rized an officially-sanctioned Tribal Council Candidates Forum to be held noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, in the Tribal gymnasium. Lunch will be served. Tribal members can submit ques tions for the candidates at any of the drop boxes located throughout the Grand Ronde Tribal campus in the Governance Building, Education, Library, Elders' Activity Center, Health & Wellness Clinic, Natural Resources and Tribal Housing. All questions must be signed and have the Tribal member's roll See FORUM continued on page 4 Contest Powwow set for Aug. 14-1 6 By Dean Rhodes Smoke Signals editor The Grand Ronde Tribe will host to one of the largest powwows annually in Or egon the weekend of Aug. 14-16 when the Contest Powwow returns to Uyxat Powwow Grounds, 9390 Highway 22. Powwow registration begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, with the first Grand Entry slated for 7 p.m. On Saturday, a parade with cash prizes will be held, starting at 10 a.m. at Fort Yamhill State Park and winding down to the powwow grounds. The Tribe was notified in late July that it will receive $600,000 in American Recovery and Re-investment Act funds to remodel the existing 300-square-foot dental office space and build a 1,900- square-foot addition to Wing C to allow the Wellness Department staff to relocate into n single office area and provide access to space for dietary ond exercise classes, which nre especially important for diabetic clients.
