A ea ROGUE RIVER KALAPTJYA CHASTA Coiratiesti Powwow seti foe oogjo By Dean Rhodes Smoke Signals editor The Grand Ronde Tribe will host to one of the largest powwows annually in Oregon the weekend of Aug. 14-16 when the Contest Powwow returns to Uyxat Powwow Grounds, 9390 Highway 22. Powwow registration begins at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, with the first Grand Entry slated for 7 p.m. On Saturday, a parade with cash prizes will be held, starting at 10 a.m. at Fort Yamhill State Park and winding down to the powwow grounds. Grand entries are slated for 1 and 7 p.m. with dancer registration deadline set for 2 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, Aug. 16, Grand Entry will occur at 1 p.m. Host drums will be Blackstone and Perfect Storm, both from Canada, and Mandaree Singers from North Dakota. There will be Specials with .$800 first-place prizes for Women's and Men's Fancy dancers. Both categories will have four consolation prizes.
