The Grand Ronde Tribe will host to one of
the largest powwows annually in Oregon
the weekend of Aug. 14-16 when the
Contest Powwow returns to Uyxat Powwow
Grounds, 9390 Highway 22.
Powwow registration begins at 5 p.m. Friday,
Aug. 14, with the first Grand Entry slated for
7 p.m.
On Saturday, a parade with cash prizes will
be held, starting at 10 a.m. at Fort Yamhill
State Park and winding down to the powwow
grounds. Grand entries are slated for 1 and 7
p.m. with dancer registration deadline set for 2
p.m. Saturday.
On Sunday, Aug. 16, Grand Entry will occur
at 1 p.m.
Host drums will be Blackstone and Perfect
Storm, both from Canada, and Mandaree Singers
from North Dakota. There will be Specials with
.$800 first-place prizes for Women's and Men's
Fancy dancers. Both categories will have four
consolation prizes.
