The Jumping Zimbricks Place At State Tribal youths Caitlin and Matt Zimbrick lead the Willamina Bulldogs' track and field team to an eighth place finish in the AA State Championships. By Peta Tinda Grand Ronde Tribal members put on a strong show of force for a very small team at the State Track and Field Finals in Monmouth this year. "We've had a great season," said Willamina Bulldogs coach Carrie Zimbrick. "The kids are hitting where they should be. By the end of the season, we had hoped to be breaking old records. "We sent seven kids to the state championships at (Western Oregon University in) Monmouth this year," said Zimbrick. "We competed in ten events altogether and brought home eight med als." At the state district meet, Tribal member Matt Zimbrick broke a personal record for the triple jump with an effort of 41 feet 9 inches. His previ ous best was 41 feet 3 inches. At the State fi nals, Matt jumped 41 feet 1 inch, earning him second place. "Which was pretty good, because he was ranked fourth," said Coach Zimbrick. "He brought home a lot of points for the team." The girl's track and field team has also done well this season. Tribal members Caitlin Zimbrick and Alex Bishop took first and second place at the district finals at Linfield College in McMinnville, and Caitlin took first place in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet 7 inches at districts.
