Grand Ronde Tribal members put on a strong
show of force for a very small team at the State
Track and Field Finals in Monmouth this year.
"We've had a great season," said Willamina
Bulldogs coach Carrie Zimbrick. "The kids are
hitting where they should be. By the end of the
season, we had hoped to be breaking old records.
"We sent seven kids to the state championships
at (Western Oregon University in) Monmouth
this year," said Zimbrick. "We competed in ten
events altogether and brought home eight med
als." At the state district meet, Tribal member Matt
Zimbrick broke a personal record for the triple
jump with an effort of 41
feet 9 inches. His previ
ous best was 41 feet 3
inches. At the State fi
nals, Matt jumped 41
feet 1 inch, earning him
second place.
"Which was pretty good, because he was
ranked fourth," said Coach Zimbrick. "He
brought home a lot of points for the team."
The girl's track and field team has also done
well this season.
Tribal members Caitlin Zimbrick and Alex
Bishop took first and second place at the district
finals at Linfield College in McMinnville, and
Caitlin took first place in the long jump with a
leap of 16 feet 7 inches at districts. Her previ
ous best was 15 feet 11 inches, showing the im
