Your loving family Tribal member Kenneth Sequoia Lewis, age 11 recently won World titles. As a national Grand Cham pion Kenneth qualified for the "Su per Grands World Championships" held at Universal Studios Holly wood over the Christmas Holidays. This was a six day com petition with competi tors from several differ ent countries repre sented. Kenneth took his first world title in Traditional Forms (10-11 year old.) He took his second world title in Traditional Weapons (17 and un der) , this was an ex tremely difficult competition for young Kenneth as he was the young est competitor in the division. In Addition, he also became a finalist and placed 5th in both Contemporary Forms and contemporary Weapons. Kenneth contributes his victories in the Traditional categories due to a strong foundation in the basics of the American Karate style. Kenneth has trained in the mar tial arts for 4 years. His instructor Hanshi Jerry Piddington is a ninth degree black belt. On January 18 ":- " -" a Kenny and seven other students into the mountains of Southern Oregon for their black belt testing. The test consisted of many hours of demonstrating knowledge of the American Karate style, sparring two and three opponents simulta neously, an hour in the sweat lodge, hiking 3 to 5 miles per day and diving into the f-'f'"A Applegate River. At I Ln'X I any other time this would not have been a difficult test. How ever, when its 22 de grees and snowing the elements seem to add to the intensity. But, if you ask the young black belt he will tell you it was all worth it., Es pecially when during the presen tation ceremony Hanshi Piddington honored Kenneth for his hard work and perseverance by presenting him with his own personal black belt that he had received from his instructor in Okinawa twenty seven years prior. The first reading of the proposed amendments was made at the March 20, 2002, Tribal Council Meeting. The purpose of the amendments is to make various technical updates and substantive changes to the Ordinance to provide for an efficient and effective corporate procedures. The proposed amendments include, but are not limited to, the following: Clarifying that Tribal Council meetings may serve as shareholder meet ings when applicable.. Providing for presentation of corporate budgets to Tribal Council for comment on or before October 31 of each year. Requiring adoption of certain policies and procedures by corporations, including financial systems and controls, feasibility determination and due diligence procedures, human resources policies, investment evaluation pro cedures, if applicable, and providing a required time line and procedures for implementation of such policies. Providing that corporate legal representation is to be handled through the Tribal Attorney's Office.
