Tribal member Kenneth Sequoia
Lewis, age 11 recently won World
titles. As a national Grand Cham
pion Kenneth qualified for the "Su
per Grands World Championships"
held at Universal Studios Holly
wood over the Christmas Holidays.
This was a six day com
petition with competi
tors from several differ
ent countries repre
sented. Kenneth took his first
world title in Traditional
Forms (10-11 year old.)
He took his second world
title in Traditional
Weapons (17 and un
der) , this was an ex
tremely difficult competition for
young Kenneth as he was the young
est competitor in the division. In
Addition, he also became a finalist
and placed 5th in both Contemporary
Forms and contemporary Weapons.
Kenneth contributes his victories in
the Traditional categories due to a
strong foundation in the basics of the
American Karate style.
Kenneth has trained in the mar
tial arts for 4 years. His instructor
Hanshi Jerry Piddington is a ninth
degree black belt. On January 18
":- " -" a
Kenny and seven other students
into the mountains of Southern
Oregon for their black belt testing.
The test consisted of many hours of
demonstrating knowledge of the
American Karate style, sparring
two and three opponents simulta
neously, an hour in the
sweat lodge, hiking 3
to 5 miles per day and
diving into the
f-'f'"A Applegate River. At
I Ln'X I any other time this
would not have been a
difficult test. How
ever, when its 22 de
grees and snowing the
elements seem to add
to the intensity. But,
if you ask the young black belt he
will tell you it was all worth it., Es
pecially when during the presen
tation ceremony Hanshi Piddington
honored Kenneth for his hard work
and perseverance by presenting
him with his own personal black
belt that he had received from his
instructor in Okinawa twenty seven
years prior.
Thank you to Spirit Mountain
Casino for your support.
Kenneth is the grandson of Edna
Bobb Raya and the great-grandson
and 19, Hjanshi Piddington took of Wilson Bobb Sr.
Welcome to our World!
