JANUARY 15, 2001 Smoke Signals 15 Youth Ambassador Seeks Support Tribal member ALICIALEIGH SELWYN, daughter of Marcella Norwest and Anthony Selwyn, has been invited to become a member of the People to People Oregon delega tion student Ambassador program. This program is to create a global com munity based on trust, respect, and an understanding of other cultures, economies and political systems. This is a once in a lifetime event. The primary goal is to be a represen tative of their country, area and ex perience new cultures. Each delega tion of students will visit Australia and New Zealand in the summer of 2001. The 22-day South Pacific dis covery is a learning experience that allows students to travel and learn about other cultures. A fund has been established for Alicialeigh at the Bank of America in Willamina. Donations for any amount are appreciated. We are very proud of Alicialeigh. A. jtJJ r The Environmental Assessment (EA) and a Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) have been issued for the proposed Ulq Logging Unit on the Grand Ronde Indian Reservation in a portion of the Nl2 of Section 3 and a portion of the SE14 of Sectionl5, T.5S., R.8W., Willamette Merid ian. The EA discloses the issues relating to the environmental resources affected by the Proposed Action and alternatives to the Proposed Action. The EA further discloses the analysis of the likely environmental conse quences of the Proposed Action and alternatives to the Proposed Action. The FONSI discloses the alternative selected by the responsible official and gives supporting reasons for this selection. The Preferred Alternative, Al ternative A, proposes a regeneration harvest total of 37.32 acres of Douglas-fir timber from two stands ranging in age from 108 years-old to 119 years-old. The EA and FONSI are available for public review and comment until January 19, 2001. The responsible public official is: Mr. Stan Speaks, Northwest Regional Director for the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Violet will still be around, just not as often. She said her plans are to spend more time with her family, mainly her grandchildren. Violet has worked for the Tribe since 1992. Violet's family was in attendance at her semi-retirement party.
