Page 2 September 1, 1995 SMOKE SIGNALS , . ; r I Business Information Center: It's a good thing By Tracy Dugan On August 17 a dedication ceremony was held at the Small Business Development Cen ter inviting tribal members to utilize the new materials they now have. There were many people from both the Wash ington, D.C. and Portland Small Business Ad ministration offices who were instrumental in helping the Tribe receive its BIC, and who at tended the dedication ceremony. They were: Cassandra Pulley, Monica Edwards-Harrison, John Gillman, and Don Matsuda. Also in at tendance was Patrick Borunda, of the Oregon Native American Business and Entrepreneur ial Network. The guests each spoke briefly about the con ception of the BIC project and how the Tribe received these business materials. One of the best things about the Business Development Center is that it offers something for anyone who is interested in starting a small business enterprise. Small Business Develop ment now has a sizeable library of information including videos, computer programs, and in dividual business start-up guides for almost any business one might imagine. If you have never been interested in being an entrepreneur, visit the Business Information Center, and you will be. One of the mail ings included a copied ballot marked with individual names, their qualifications, and it was sent with a copy of a confirmation letter my office previously mailed. The Enroll ment Office does not endorse any candi dates by mail and does not give out the names and addresses of eligible voters. I want to assure each and every member that your privacy is protected in the Enrollment Office and that any use of the Enrollment let terhead or letters of the Enrollment Office by the candidates is unethical. The election Board is available to answer ques tions every Tuesday and Thursday from 1-4 p.m. at 879-5600. Bid contracts awarded Seventeen contractors picked up bid packets for work and repairs on a home that included roof work, doors and window work, sheet rock, plumbing, electrical work, painting, kitchen and bedroom remodeling, and a new heating system. Five bids were submitted. They were: Kola Sales and Service $47,985, Honeydew Con struction $31,816, Ken Schmidt Construction Co. $45,673, Viking Construction $47,319, and Eagle Feather Construction $31,738. Eagle Feather won the bid. The same number of contractors picked up packets for another home repair job. The work included sheet rock, kitchen remodeling, plumb ing, painting, electrical work, door and window repair, and heating system work. The bids were: Kola Sales and Service $45,612, Ken Schmidt Construction Company $37,717, Viking Construction $43,357, and Eagle Feather Construction $36,400. Eagle Feather won the bid. Eai id
