The evening begins at 6 p.m. C u ltu re and H eritag e would like to invite you to participate: Stop by and learn about digitizing photos and photo preservation. There will be photos from th e 1950s th ro u g h 2000. Culture and Heritage would like help in identifying the people and circumstances o f these photos. Light snack and beverage will be served. There is theme this year of Honoring O ur V eterans and War- riors— Those Who Served in the U.S. Navy. The Fourth, on a Wednes day this year, will see the Pa rade, line up at 9 a.m. at the form er W arm Springs el ementary school. Judging the floats will be 10; and the pa rad e sta rts at 11 o ’clock sharp. Recreation will host a bar becue shortly after the parade, with a horseshoe tournament at noon. Seniors Picnic The Warm Springs Elders Picnic is scheduled for the a fte rn o o n o f Ju ly 19, a Thursday. This will be at the Warm Springs Pavilion be hind the Community Center. One chance... Sometimes that’s all you get to do it right. O ther times, do-over’s are perm it ted and expected. It d e pends upon the task or the task-master. G ood preparation helps. Inadequate preparation will m ost likely ensure failure. Some failures hurt more than others. Recovery may depend upon the type and degree o f injury. I was 15 when I decided I wanted to hunt on horse back. I was advised that any one can shoot o ff a horse— oncel T h e m ean in g was pretty clear. A fter the shot, the deer was supposed to be on the gro u n d and I was not. I needed a gun-saw y horse. Lacking that, I would have to train one. I lucked out. A cousin loaned me one o f his for the stimmer. We didn’t have limits in the early ‘50s an d my little 25-35 didn’t spook the horse. That was a fun summer. We were prepared. The right horse was available. And the deer were tasty. Life is all about prepar ing and doing. The prepa rations will vary from the general to the specific. For a job interview, you should know as m uch as possible about the business and the job. You should be prepared to discuss what you will bring to it. K now ing something about the inter viewer might help. A sales presentation re quires know ledge o f the product being sold and some basic and maybe m ore re fin e d ' sales tech n iq u es. Knowing som ething about the potential buyer helps. A nother skill to learn. . Preparation for a debate would include knowing your stuff and your opponent’s stuff; this way, that way, and every way possible. Think o f stuffing a turkey; know your stuff and stuff it with care and class. Purchasing or starting a business requires a lot of preparation. Your goal is to maximize chances for sur vival and success. T he learning involved can come ffom a variety o f sources: w ork experience, sclied u led tra in in g s, schools, m entors, friends, family, and even chance happenings and observa tions. T hen the task is to keep on learning.. W h ere an d w h en do th e se p re p a ra tio n s and learnings begin? My ^an swer would be at hom e and from birth. Yeh, I know it took me a long time to get here but this really is for all you par ents. Parents are responsible for the child until the child is grown up enough to take over that responsibility. Ybu are the ones best from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. You can eat lunch with the staff in the social hall. The meals will be excellent. Prepping them for school is just one thing; but, your w ork d o e sn ’t en d there. O nce they are in school, you can keep on checking on th eir p ro g ress by asking them what they learned that day. Some teachers do that ev ery day as th eir students leave the room. The answers can tell them a lot about how well they have done as a teacher. Sometimes the last kids to leave class have the best an swers. W onder why? Maybe it’s another teaching tech nique. So let’s end this w ith a wish that all kids do well and enjoy school. G ood results will last a lifetime. The next school i year is coming on fast. Are kids ready? Are parents ready?
