One chance...
Sometimes that’s all you
get to do it right. O ther
times, do-over’s are perm it
ted and expected. It d e
pends upon the task or the
task-master.
G ood preparation helps.
Inadequate preparation will
m ost likely ensure failure.
Some failures hurt more
than others. Recovery may
depend upon the type and
degree o f injury.
I was 15 when I decided
I wanted to hunt on horse
back. I was advised that any
one can shoot o ff a horse—
oncel T h e m ean in g was
pretty clear.
A fter the shot, the deer
was supposed to be on the
gro u n d and I was not. I
needed a gun-saw y horse.
Lacking that, I would have
to train one. I lucked out.
A cousin loaned me one
o f his for the stimmer. We
didn’t have limits in the early
‘50s an d my little 25-35
didn’t spook the horse. That
was a fun summer. We were
prepared. The right horse
was available. And the deer
were tasty.
Life is all about prepar
ing and doing. The prepa
rations will vary from the
general to the specific.
For a job interview, you
should know as m uch as
possible about the business
and the job. You should be
prepared to discuss what you
will bring to it. K now ing
something about the inter
viewer might help.

Knowing som ething about
the potential buyer helps.
A nother skill to learn. .
Preparation for a debate
would include knowing your
stuff and your opponent’s
stuff; this way, that way, and
every way possible. Think
o f stuffing a turkey; know
your stuff and stuff it with
care and class.
Purchasing or starting a
business requires a lot of
preparation. Your goal is to
maximize chances for sur
vival and success.
T he learning involved
can come ffom a variety o f

schools, m entors, friends,
family, and even chance
happenings and observa

keep on learning..
