Buy Back workers 'mailed the second wave offers in May, and the offers are good through July 16., T hrough the Buy Back- program, fractional interests in allotments are purchased fro m th e trib a l m em b er owner, on behalf o f the Con federated Tribes. The first wave o f offers, earlier,this year, saw a ben efit to the tribes; and to the individual ow ners o f the fractional interests. The first wave allowed for the purchase o f a total o f 529 fractional interests from 161 separate owners, .covering 1,260 acres o f tribal land. These interests are now with the tribes. A total o f $723,000 was expended on these purchases. There is still close to $3 million available for the sec ond wave. The total allo cated for both waves was al m ost $4 million. ’ T he total figure w ould cover the Cost o f the p u r chase o f every fractional interest on the reservation. The fair runs from July 23-28, with the rode on. the Friday and Saturday during the fair. Exhibit Entries are due on Monday,. July 23 be- tween 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. for: Kids’ Comer, cloth ing and textiles, arts and crafts,'Native American arts and crafts, baked foods and photography. E ntries for flowers and land products need to be turned in on Tues day, July 24 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Eeling season at falls It is eeling season at W illam ette Falls. T he Tribal C ouncil in June approved the 2018 lam prey regulations, as pro posed by the Branch of N atu ral R esources (see page 7). , L am prey are like salmon in that they spawn in freshwater, and spend m ost o f the their adult lives in the ocean. For years the lamprey population has been in decline, as a result o f loss of habitat and hydroelec tric blockage. Tribal restoration ef forts have seen some suc cess in rebuilding the eel population. Summer Bridge at MHS Madras High School will once again offer the Summer Bridge program for its incom ing ninth graders. S um m er B ridge is tw o weeks o f classroom work that will give students a jump start, to high school, while also earning half o f an elective credit upon completion. This year Summer Bridge begins on August 13. Class w ill be fro m 8:30-12:3.0 each day. Breakfast, lunch and transportation are pro vided.
