We wanted to thank you fpr the time you have given 14s, Rachel Barney and fam ily, during the time o f the loss q f ou r d ear lo v ed o n e, brother Edgar Farrel “Styles” Boise. We had to make a de cision betw een th e Super Bowl and the Seahawks and our loved one. But like we say, fam ily should always come first no m atter the situation. We would also like to say thanks for the family w ho followed the body from Ma dras Bel Air Funeral Hom e on Jan u ary 30, 2014 at 2 p.m., followed by dressing at the A gency L onghouse in Warm Springs. We traveled on Saturday night through tough weather, snow and rain. But we m an aged to make it. It took time to get here from Seattle. We never had any regrets about getting here. Also, a big thank you to Our sisters Carol Lawrence, T e rry Stradley, A rn e tta Saludo, and our aunties Eliza Brown, N eda,' Marella Sam and all uncles, Tony Boise, Earl Boise and all cousins. We need a lot o f great spirits and family support to our loss o f our loved one, b ro th e r and uncle, E dg ar Farrel Boise. N o m atter the situation we need to remem ber w ho we are, where we come from, a Native people, n o t m any o f us left. A nd people, our N ative people young and old, rem ember to live life to your fullest. Try to be supportive and love one another. Take time to care, sh are, co m m u n ic a te . I t m eans a lot to everyone— great smiles, laughter, tears, fears-—whether good or bad, show som eone you care so m uch. Believe in yourself and pray for everyone. The burial was beautiful too, a little chilly but we m an aged to put the cold out o f mind. Big thanks to our brother, young Boise and family. He also keeps checking to make sure all is good, no matter. We love you for that, it means a lot. From Incjidn Country Yurok Tribe entering the carbon trade market The Yurok Tribe has en tered the carbon trade mar ket, joining with sustainable forestry in v estm en t group N ew Forests Inc. to sell car bon credits based on a 7,660- acre patch o f D oug fir and mixed hardw ood forest the tribe’s prom ised to manage for increased carbon seques tration. The tribe will be is sued 704,520 credits, accord ing to a news release from N ew Forests. This will be the first for est carbon offset project de veloped under the California Compliance O ffset Protocol — U.S. Forest Projects, a stan dard adopted by the Califor nia Air Resources Board for use in the California cap and trade program. T he project’s registration is a significant milestone in the development o f the offset m arket in the California cap and trade sys tem. This project will foster the restoration o f a significant swath o f forest. The partner ship w ith N ew Forests will p rovide the tribe w ith the means to boost biodiversity, accelerate watershed restora tion, and increase the abun dance o f im portant cultural resources like acorns, huck leberry and hundreds o f m e dicinal plants that thrive in a fully functioning forest eco system.” Study shows link between ancient baby and Native people A b ab y b o y w h o w as b u rn ed in M ontana ab o u t 12,600 years ago was related to present-day Native people, according to the results o f a study published in the jour nal Nature. The boy was found with 125 artifacts. His remains and k. V the items were covered with red ochre, a sign o f a burial ceremony conducted by his community. A D N A study confirmed that the boy shares ancestry w ith p re s e n t-d a y N a tiv e people, the researchers said. H e is more closely linked with A indigenous p opulations in Central and South America for reasons that haven't been determined. The boy was found on pri vate land in Montana. N ow that study is complete, he will be reburied. “I w anted to h o n o r the 1 ,i ■ spirit o f the boy. There was a disturbance there.
