T ribal atto rn ey D en n is K arn o p p g ot the m eeting started with an update on the Cascade Locks casino project, which has been stalled for some time, and the financials brought to the meeting were from 2010. M any trib a l m em b ers voiced concern over the con- tin u e d sp e n d in g o n th e project and the lack o f ac countability. Tribal Council Chairman Austin Greene Jr. and Paiute Chief Joseph Moses shared , that they continue to support the project, because that is w hat the people voted for by passing the casino referen dum. T he m eeting eventually moved on to cover updates from the other enterprises on , the agenda. Enterprise repre sentatives discussed their divi dends to the tribe and the rea sons for the decrease in divi dends, which is part o f the b u d g et problem s th a t the tribe is currently dealing with. Tribal m em ber em ploy m ent was also a hot topic that was brought up for discussion at several points in the meet ing. Tribal Council will be hold ing future meetings (dates and time to be determined) to dis cuss the current financial situ ation o f the tribe. Stick games Tribal members, D uring the Pi-Ume-Sha Powwow, we co nducted a stick game tournam ent, as we always do. T he event was a great success by our stan d ard s. We ap p re c ia te everyone’s support. During the event, we at tem pted a new form at and felt it was supportive to all our visitors, as it created a better payoff. We were able to pay $1,200; $900; $600; $300; $120; and $90 respec tively. We had 18 three-person team s entered. As always there were teams from Cali fo rn ia , W ash in g to n an d Idaho here for the event. The tournament was spon sored by the Confederated Tribes, Indian H ead Casino and Composite Products, and gosh we certainly appreciate your donations. As always, this is some o f traditions that we still try to keep alive. O ne o f my relatives indi cated she was going to at tem pt a tournam ent during the Huckleberry Festival, and I hope to support her. Also, Raymond “Captain” Moody indicated he wants something at Simnasho maybe during the rodeo. His interest is to reawaken interest th at our ancestors used to have in the area only a few years ago. O f course his family is assisting him the best they can. When I drive by the site I see a handful w orking w ith : him w ith g reat pride. We only know how difficult an en d eav o r it is to c re a te , the good times as we rem ember them. T h e stick gam e club knows how the situation with the tribe is, but we hope to continue w ith w hat we do ev ery year. P e rso n ally I would like to thank Ramona Starr for the memorial din ner she puts up Fridays be fore the stick games. Thank you to the entire Starr family fo r th e w ork they did, and Alice, Vanessa and family for the w ork they did. Ramona made breakfast for visitors Sunday morning. Myself and my friend D onna T orres were sitting at the sign-up table and a friend from California Tony Ramos offered us a sandwich, which we accep ted ; and D o n n a says, “Gee, kind o f funny we have to be fed by our visi tors.” We both laughed about Spilyay Tymoo (C o yo te News, Est. 1976) Publisher Emeritus: Sid Miller Reporter/ Advertising Director: Yvonne Iverson Editor: Dave McMechan * Spilyay Tymoo is published bi-weekly by the Con federated Tribes of Warm Springs. It’s a nice way o f saying thank you and they will appreciate the business. You will be approved or denied based on your non-tra- ditional credit record. I f you are approved, the lender will “loan” you $300 to $500 or so and deposit it into your account. Then they will freeze the account. You will be required to make monthly payments on the “loan.” The lender will report your paymerit history to the credit reporting agency every m onth and the $300- 500 is yours w hen you have paid off the loan. W hat about applying for credit for doing business as a business?; Qualifying for credit as a business always starts with an e x a m in a tio n o f p e rs o n a l credit history. Lenders know that businesses don’t pay back loan’s; people do. The business person must have a record o f paying back their debts on time and in full— there it is again. R em em ber, lenders rely upon past payment history to predict future performance. Always! And now, the quiz— Fill in the blanks: P __ M _ _ _____ S_____ _____O _ T ____ and I F . A !
