Library Director Yvonne Iverson/Spilyay Casey Green hosted the Healing Waters group for a second year at his family’s home site along the Deschutes River. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. (PHWFF) is dedicated to the physical and emotional rehabilitation of disabled active military service personnel and disabled veterans. The rehabilitation is through flyfishing and associated activities including education and outings. Indian nations call for full U.N. participation Indigenous governments, including the tribal nations o f N orth America, are seeking an official status wtithin the United Nations in the lead up to the High Level Plenary to be known as the World Con feren ce on In d ig en o u s Peoples in New York City in September o f 2014. In late May o f 2013 dur ing the United Nations Per m an en t F o ru m on In d ig enous Issues in N ew York City, more than 72 tribal na tions and ten Indian and N a tive H aw aiian o rg a n iz a tions— including the National Congress o f the American Indian, called on the U N to adopt rules to recognize the “regular and perm anent sta tu s” o f constitutional and customary Indigenous gov ernments at the UN and be come fully inclusive o f all In digenous governments. ’ More specifically, the joint statement made three recom mendations for consideration leading up to the World Con feren ce o f In d ig e n o u s Peoples: 1. That a new monitoring body be incorporated wtithin the UN to help guide imple m entation o f the D eclara tion by m em bers states o f the UN; 2. D id you also know that children who read over sum mer do better in school? Sum m er reading is the perfect way for students to learn ab o u t th eir favorite subjects and strengthen their reading skills. To help encourage read ing the Community Health and P rev en tio n R esource Center and Library, located in the Family Resource Cen ter, is starting a summer read ing and activities program. , T h e'C om m unity H ealth and P re v e n tio n R esource Center and Library have book cards available to track your child’s reading this summer. For each book your child reads h e /s h e fills o u t one book card with information including: T h e read er’s nam e and grade, the title o f the book, favorite character and why, favorite part o f the book, and how many stars the book de serves. A parent also signs the card. W hen finished, turn the card in to CHPRC. As you can see, we want to k now w h at your child thought o f the book. Com pleted cards will be entered into a drawing for some cool prizes.
