The event happens at the K ah-N ee-Ta R esort & Spa Village. T he scheduled race dis tance is 14.5k, 10k, 5k and the 1-mile funrun/w alk. Reg istration will begin at 8 a.m. at the Village front gate. The 14.5k race will pro vide a bus to the Simnasho community store, leaving the Village front gate at 8:30 a.m. sharp, the race to begin at 9 a.m. sharp. This will be from the Three Warriois store. The 10k, 5k and 1-mile start at 10 a.m. at the Village front gate. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the male and female divisions in all age categories. There will be door prizes, with ¿tickets given’ to every registered runner. E n try fee also includes free en try pass into the Kah-Nee-Ta Village Pool. Pre-registration fee: $12 with t-shirt; $80 w ithout t- shirt. Day o’f race fee: $15 with t-shirt; $10 without t-shirt. Science teacher Steve I Cox was instrum ental in I making the H onor Society I a reality. “I have taught here for I 17 years, and we have not ? had an H onor Society in | that time so it was time,” says Cox. N early 50 seventh- and eighth-grade students com p leted the p aperw ork and were accepted into the nation ally recognized group. Students were required to subm it their recent grades, re c o m m e n d a tio n s fro m adults and teachers, and show how they are active in their community. There is more to the N a tional Junior H onor Society than just good grades, he said. The students are expected to be leaders with good charac ter, and to be o f service to the community. / “Student leaders are those w ho are resourceful, good problem-solvers, prom oters o f school activities, idea-con trib u to rs, dependable, "and persons who exemplify posi tive attitudes about life,” Leriche said. T ribal L iaisbn B utch David and Principal Simon White are in the process o f planning a “G o to College For a Day*’ trip to Portland State University in the near future for five girls from Warm Springs. The new inductees will also be doing a community service project, so they will be busy in their new roles: as NJHS students: Everyone is invited to the Redsides Powwow on April 17 in Maupin. This will be the Second Annual Redsides Powwow. The South Wasco County School District has taken the iniative along with some o f the parents to continue this powwow. A potluck dinner will be served and a good little pow wow afterwards. Also, for those not want in g to drive fro m W arm Springs to Maupin, the school district will be providing trans portation to the powwow and back to Simnasho. COCC seeking art work for campuses Central Oregon Commu- nity College’s Art Acquisitions Committee is accepting art work entries to purchase for th e M adras and Prineville campuses.
