Big win for White Buffalos at N. Marion By W ill Bobbins fo r the Spilyay Tymoo T he Madras W hite B uf falo varsity fo o tb all team looked like an entirely differ ent team last Friday against N orth Marion. The game got o ff to an unusual start when the Huskies decided to onside kick the initial kickoff. T he move surprised many, including Madras head coach Rick Wells, w ho said, “I t ’s high school football, you’ve got to expect those kinds o f things... We had our breaks,” he ad d ed , “ an d th ey had theirs.” T he attem pt to trick the White Buffs was short lived and N orth Marion would give up p o ssession after ju st 7 plays. Two plays later White B uff wide receiver Devin Ceciliani ran for 80 yards for the first o f six Madras touchdowns. Later, Ciciliani would score on a run o f 25 yards and a pass o f 7 yards. The W hite B uff defense, which has struggled against th e ru n in th ree p rev io u s games, was much improved. In the first half, each time N o rth M arion w ould gain possession, the M adras de fense stepped it up a notch, only allowing small gains. Coach Wells said, ‘W e just told ourselves that we were going to have the mentality to get better.” T he H uskies’ b est drive lasted 15 plays that chewed eight minutes from the clock, b ut was stopped after N ick Picard exploded through the line and sacked the N o rth M arion QB for an 11 yard loss. Three plays later the hus kies were forced to punt and the W hite Buffs responded w ith a three play drive that concluded w ith an 85 yard touchdown strike to wide re ceiver Jack Fine. M adras w o u ld g e t o n e m ore score before the half when QB Steele Haugen con nected with Aaron Phillips on a 56-yard pass to the corner o f the end zone In the second half N orth Marion fumbled the kick o ff an d th e W hite B uffs w ent seven plays, ending, in a 4- yard touchdow n run by re turning back Joe Hisatake. The Huskies would end up scoring three touchdowns in the second half but it wasn’t m eant to be, as Madras kept the ball on the ground and would eventually take a knee to finish the game w ith a 46- 18 Tri Valley League win.. Madras QB Steele Haugen com pleted 12 o f 16 passes fo r 238 y ard s a n d th re e touchdowns. D evin C iciliani scored th ree tim es, Jo e H isatak e twice, and once each for Jack Fine and Aaron Phillips. The White Buffaloes (2-3) will now prepare for their next g am e th is F rid ay a g ain st Molalla. The Indians come in to th e gam e w ith a 1-5 re c o rd a n d 0-1 in league games. Last week Molalla was beaten by Estacada 6-0. Madras coach Wells said o f Molalla, “We know each other very well. We run simi lar offenses and similar de fe n se s, a n d it w ill b e a slugfest. They w ant to make the playoffs just like we do.” F rid a y ’s g am e c a n b e heard on K W SO 91.9 FM w ith W ill “T h e W ilm an ” R obbins calling th e action starting at 7 p.m. Youth Football white- Tb’lo'ffn-Lo Sports Sc-he-fale H e re is th e u p c o m in g sports schedule for the Ma dras W hite Buffalo athletic teams: Thursday, Oct. 4 Water Polo, v.
