I would like to take this time to thank family and friends, and the commu nity of Warm Springs, for all the support I received in my goal in becoming the reigning Miss Pi-Ume-Sha 2012-2013! It’s such an honor to represent our people and our tribe as Royalty! My most recent travel was to the well-known Pendleton Round-Up. I had never been to that powwow before. With my family’s help I was able to participate this year in the Traditional dance contest, also the Swan Dance. I had never tried that dance before b u t just wanted to give it a try, and found a team that needed a dancer. I didn’t tell them it was my first time trying that particular dance. I enjoyed myself and will be back to participate again next year. Sockeye spawns in Metolius River First time in 45 years A fish biologist for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has confirmed the first spawning of sockeye in the Metolius River in over 45 years last Thursday, Sept. 27, according to KVAL.com. “I saw a flash or red color and was able to see the green tags that confirmed it was a sockeye,” G auvin said. O cean-going sokeye salmon are given two green tags when they’re captured at Pelton Round Butte Dam. The fish was also fitted with a radio tag so biologists could track its movements up the river.
