H o u rs are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thurs day. 10 a.m. to 12 midnight Friday and Saturday. “This is really going to be nice,” Joy Ramirez said o f the opening. “It’s a great idea, and it’s nice to have a positive business in the community for youth.” For now, Nicole is playing with ideas on what types of food to serve, w ith several ideas in mind. “F o r now, th ere are re freshments,” Nicole said. “T h ey have th o s e air- hockey tables,” Angela Smith s Duran Bobb/Spilyay Killian and Yancy Smith take aim at the new arcade. Edison Yazzie and the 4-H Program m ade sure the kids were busy at the Roping Clinic. Yazzie, with assistance from Justin Tom and Lee Tom, worked with the kids on their roping technique. When putting their skills to the test in boys vs. girls ' contest, the girls were vic torious each time. ‘W e received donations o f ropes from local busi nesses,” Yazzie says. “We are planning for this to be an annual event fo r the youth.” Each participant was able to take hom e a rope to practice with. ! Bagley-Tias es timated it at “probably 70 percent loss.” N o damage figure had been compiled, she added. Head of Bonneville Power retiring PO RTLAN D (AP) - The head o f the Bonneville Power Administration, who weath ered the 2001 energy crisis and longstanding court battles over making the Northwest's hydroelectric dams safer for salmon, is retiring. The agency announced last week that Steve Wright will step down at the end o f Janu ary 2013. Bonneville manages power from 31 federal dams in the Columbia Basin and operates m ore than 15,000 miles, o f transmission lines that carry electricity across the West. It supplies about 40 percent of th e p o w er fo r th e P acific N o rth w e s t, an d o v ersees much o f the region's salmon conservation projects. Feds to open review of Mass. Indian casino bid TAU N TO N , Mass. (AP) - A nother step in the process that a Massachusetts Indian tribe hopes will lead to devel opm ent o f a resort casino is set to begin. T h e fe d e ra l B ureau o f Indian Affairs is scheduled to hold its first public hearing this Wednesday on a bid by the Mashpee Wampanoag to p u t in to federal tru st 146 acres o f land in the southeast ern M assach u setts city o f Taunton. Approval o f the land-into- trust application is required before the casino project can move forward. T he tribe also faces aju ly 31 deadline for negotiating a casino com pact w ith the state. A hearing is also scheduled T h u rsd a y by th e fed eral agency on the Mashpee’s re lated request to p ut 170 acres o f land into tru st on Cape Cod. T he tribe has said it has no plans to develop a casino on the Cape.
