(AP) —Authorities say a woman, from W arm Springs, and tw o m en were rescued last week from the Columbia River after their fish ing boat capsized. Benton County sheriffs Lt. Joe Lusignan said that the three residents apparently clung to their capsized boat for about six hours in the river near Crow Butte. All were suffering from hy potherm ia. C o n s tr u c tio n crew s are opening the radial gates at the base o f what's left o f the Sav age Rapids D am and starting to drain the reservoir. T he Federal Bureau o f Rec lam ation says the action will al low a new channel to be cut down the river's n o rth side, al lowing Rogue salmon to pass freely at the Jackson-Josephine county line for the first tim e since 1921. She was always will ing to teach anyone w ho wanted to learn. H er artwork is on display at the Native American Smithsonian Insti tute in W ashington, D.C. She was an extra in two movies: O n e D eadly G ro u n d and G eronim o. Steven Seagall had adopted her as his sister. D e lo re s w as th e lead singer o f the family drum group “Treaty o f 1855.” She was also a certified teacher o f the Yakarna language, C o lumbia River dialect. D elores’ em ploym ent included: Wapato Public Schools, Yakarna N ation G eneral C ouncil in te rp rete r, Yakarna Tribal School, Legends Casino and the Language P ro gram. She was also a co-owner o f the Wapanish Trading Post. D elores is survived by her th ree sisters.
