Warm Springs Construc tion is now working on grad ing the site, located at the industrial park. The new building—-phase one o f a two-phase project— should be done within four to six m onths, depending on weather conditions this win ter, said Ken Lydy, Fire Man agement assistant fire man agement officer. The new facility is needed as Fire Management has out grow n its cu rren t facility. T he em ployees cu rren tly work at two different loca tions, because there is n ot enough room at the main ex isting facility by N atural Re sources, said Lydy. Fire M anagem ent employs up to 200 people during the summer. F ire M an ag em en t first started trying to secure funding for the building project in the late 1990s, said Lydy. The fund ing comes from the BIA. “We made great progress over the past two years,” he said. The first phase o f the project will be the offices, crew rooms and the shop. The second phase will be a warehouse. The new Fire M anagement complex will be 23,000 square feet at total build out. The initial funding request in the 1990s was for $1.6 million, b ut an additional am ount will eventually be needed to complete the project, said Lydy. Weed control topic of seminar Weed control with a focus on tw o in v asiv e species— medusahead and ventenata— is the focus o f a rangeland resto ration w orkshop on Thursday, Oct. 1. The meeting will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Family R eso u rce C e n te r in W arm Springs. A fter lunch, the group will travel to Sidwalter to view the effects o f last year’s herbicide trials and the results from plant ing native bunchgrass species in plots following w eed control.
