These organizations include Children’s Protective Services, the Recreation Department, the Boys and Girls Club, Culture and Heritage, the courts, OSU Extension, to name some. These and other interested groups will meet together next Tuesday and Wednesday, Sept. 29-30. Shawn Morford, of the OSU E x ten sio n O ffice in W arm Springs, organized the confer ence. “In this time of budget cuts, or pending budget cuts, it is im portant for us to work together and collaborate,” she said. T h e various agencies o r youth service providers may be able to operate more efficiently through greater collaboration with other providers, she said. T he conference will be a chance to explore ways for the providers to work more closely together. Special feature o f the two- day conference will be a video produced by a group o f local youth. The youth are making the video w ith assistance o f N V isions, ow ned by Alyssa Macy. Jaylyn Suppah is organiz ing the project. The video will present the youth vision o f the community. A re a R ugS * N e w S h ip m e n t * ASSORTED STYLES ’ Long-time tule gatherer retiring Tule gatherer and preparer Larry Dick has retired from col lecting tule reeds. For many years he has been gathering tales for the making o f the traditional mats. The mats are used at feasts and other cultural and ceremo nial events. The reeds can be woven into together to make skirts, baskets and houses. Some tribes have made boats from the reeds. Larry has gathered the reeds for many years at Tule Lake and other marsh areas o f the region.
