Santos, of Warm Springs, received the highest: award at the recent Nch’i-Wana 2007 Native Ameri can Art Show. Santos’ painting, High Kamamul’s Cure, received the People’s Choice Award at the Nch’i-Wana art show held at the Columbia River Center for the Arts in Hood River. During the show, 500 people voted for their favorite piece of art in the show. High Kamamul’s Cure received the most votes. Organizer for the show, Pat Case said it is not surprising that Santos won the award. “There were many great works of art at the show, but High Kamamul’s Cure Was espe cially amazing,” said Case. Santos completed the paint ing during the last year of her life. Her painting depicts an eagle medicine-spirit, High Kamamul, Working on a cure. While work ing on the piece:, Santos said her hope was that the healing she felt while painting it would bring medicine to heal her people, es pecially the Native children and youth. : Case said that the Nch’i-Wana 2007 Native American. ,Art Show was dedicated to âtwai Santos because of her active in volvement with helping to de- velop the show before she passed. I’m really pleased she won the award.” The artist winning the People’s Choice Award received a $500 cash award from Colum bia River Bank. Due to her pass ing, the award proceeds will be given to Santos surviving loved ones.
