Santos’ painting, High
Kamamul’s Cure, received the
People’s Choice Award at the
Nch’i-Wana art show held at the
Columbia River Center for the
Arts in Hood River.
During the show, 500 people
voted for their favorite piece of
art in the show.
High Kamamul’s Cure received
the most votes. Organizer for
the show, Pat Case said it is not
surprising that Santos won the
award.
“There were many great
works of art at the show, but
High Kamamul’s Cure Was espe
cially amazing,” said Case.
Santos completed the paint
ing during the last year of her
life.
Her painting depicts an eagle
medicine-spirit, High Kamamul,
Working on a cure. While work
ing on the piece:, Santos said her
hope was that the healing she
felt while painting it would bring
medicine to heal her people, es
pecially the Native children and
youth.
: Case said that the Nch’i-Wana
2007 Native American. ,Art
Show was dedicated to âtwai
Santos because of her active in
volvement with helping to de-
velop the show before she
passed.

for the show, and because her
