He leads the team in steals and assists, and is the only player on the team to have started each game this year. He is also known for his strong defensive play. “What I’ve liked most about his season is that he has im proved throughout the season,” said Kahseuss Jackson, Mike’s brother. M ik e’s m other D eborah Jackso n A lvarez says she is looking forward next year to seeing him play. “I’m flying out next year for sure to watch him,” she said. “He’ll be a senior.” Wartburg College is a Divi sion III college in Iowa, which makes it hard for his family in Warm Springs to see him play. All-Indian high school championships in April The Northwest All-Indian H igh School B asketb all C ham pionships for both boys and girls will be held on April 13, 14 and 15 at the Warm Springs Elementary School and the Warm Springs Community Center Gymna siums. The fifteenth annual event is hosted by the W arm Springs Cougars Youth Bas ketball Organization and will be open for All-Indian high school teams from through out Indian Country. Entry fees for the event are set at $175 per girls team and $200 per boys team by the entry deadline of April 6. After the deadline the entry fee will increase by $25 per team. Heart tournament in Warm Springs next month The Third Annual All-Indian Basketball HEART Tourna ment is set for April 20-22 at the Warm Springs Community Center and the Warm Springs E lem entary School gym na sium. Divisions are grades 9-12 co ed; grades 6-8 co-ed; grades 3-5 co-ed; and grades k-2 exhi bition. Entry fee is $150 by March 30; and $175 by April 6. Traveling teams must have team representative present. E-mail to fri@comm. center to receive a team packet. Prizes include championship high school division leather to play for Wartburg. Deborah says her son is hop ing to be a coach after he gradu ates. “The most important thing is that he is progressing toward his degree,” said Kahseuss. Recent statistics show Jack- son leading the Knights with 1.6 steals per game, and 2.6 assists. He is also averaging 3.9 re bounds per game (thud on the team)| and 25.6 minutes pet- game (third on the team). His field goal percentage is .521 (third) on the team); and his free-throw percentage is .754 (fourth.on the team). He is av eraging 8.1 points per game. During a recent game Jack- son had 15 points, two assists, a blocked shot, and a steal. It was his 13th double-figure outing of the year, according to the report on the game.
