4 July 18, 1996 Warm Springs, Oregon SpilyayTymoo E Coosh EEWA: 77k? way it is A , , -I--- op t, YAY The Fire season is her and any little spark could cause quite a fire. The weather is hot and the plant life like the range grass is very dry and can burn real fast and could get real hot. We just had a 1 300 acre fire just south of the community known as the Kuck-up fire and the cause is still under investigation, but a lot of range land was burned out. The fire started just next to the Trailer courts on the south side of Warm Springs where the fire spread out in no time at all. It was a good thing the wind was in our favor and took the flames away from homes in that area. Many people were evacuated for a time until the fire was well out of range from the homes before it was safe to return home. There were homes along highway 24 that faced danger and the highway was closed to travel at that time but the fire was controlled before it reached those homes in the Dry Hollow and other parts along the Jackson trail road. The highway 24 was closed long enough for the bomber to come in and drop retardent on the flames. Yep! it took Cat's, Planes, Tanker's and men to control the fire but not until after it consumed 1 300 acres of land. The hotshot crew had a busy time fighting this fire. The local Hot Shot Crew has been on the go pretty regular fighting fires across the west, southwest and just about where ever they were needed . They were even called to send a crew to Alaska, on that large fire near Anchorage. The Hot Shot Crews were in the southwest for quite a spell going from one fire to another and has spent a number of days away from home. Just recently the Hot Shot crew just came off the Mt. Jefferson Wilderness fire which was located just out of the south boundary of the reservation in the Mt. Jefferson area. The fire was in very rough terrain and in dry bug infested timber which caused the fire to become a lot tougher to control and was very dangerous for falling dry trees in the area. So far we've really not had real bad thunder storms here on the reservation and hopefully we won't have any at all.. With the Dryness of the countryside it would be sure to burn quite a number of acres of land before it would be contained. Well like Old Smokey the Bear said, "If you smoke in the woods. He'll Crush Your Butt." What's happened in the NBA now days? What's happened to just plain basketball? Where have all the coaches and ballplayers gone? As it appears nowadays when ever they blink an eye all you can see is $ $ signs. All these players receive so much money to play basketball and yet most of them can't even make a free shot. It's disgusting to watch a game on TV and see all these expensive players miss foul shots. Free shots can make a big difference in whether a team wins or loses a game. Today you see games that are lost by one or two points, but the sticker is the team that lost by one or two points or so has missed 20 free shots during the game. A player thats worth that much money should be able to make his free shots. The Portland Trail Blazers have been in this position almost all year long where they lost games by one or two points but have missed a heck-of-a bunch of free shots. If they could just make one third of what they miss their win loss record would change drastically. AHH-NAH-CHI-TOON!!! Toe Ness First Wife: "How would you describe Fathers Day?" Second Wife: "Just like Mothers Day...only you don't spend as much money." YIKES SS SS Wife: Well, did KWSO hire You? Husband: "N-n-n-no, they s-s-said I w-w-want t-t-tall enough !" YIKES 6 SS SS Husband: You must admit, that men have better judgment than women. Wife: Oh yes. You married me didn't you." YIKES Yep! Marriage is like a Railroad sign you see a girl and stop. Then you look. And after you're married you listen," YIKES SS SS EDITOR'S NOTE SpilyayTymoo welcomes articles and letters from its readers.
